I am a native English speaker with over 5 years of ESL teaching experience locally and abroad. Most of my teaching has been as a university instructor, but my ESL students have ranged from 14 to 70 years in age. I am an enthusiastic and creative teacher, dedicated to ensuring my students success in attaining their educational goals. I am skilled in all aspects of English grammar, reading, writing, and speaking. I have also tutored students from K-8 in English and math.
I am passionate about teaching and seeing my students gain proficiency and self-confidence. I custom tailor my techniques to facilitate a student's individual needs, improving areas of weakness while building upon their strengths. Additionally, I try to instill a permanent love of learning and motivation to succeed academically and socially.
I have over 5 years of ESL/ESOL teaching experience. I have been working as a substitute teacher at two private language schools locally. I taught in Iran for nearly 5 years, mostly in university programs, but also at a nursing school, a computer facility, Iranian army officers, and adults seeking to learn English or improve their proficiency for career advancement or personal development. I have extensive expertise in creating teaching materials, evaluating and testing student progress, and preparing students for the TOEFL and IELTS examinations. While in Iran, I was developing a textbook to accompany a Cambridge University language program, but the Revolution disrupted this project in the midst of my 3-years of work and I was never able to regain my work or continue in the ESL field.
Additionally, I tutored children (K-8th grade) under a No Child Left Behind program, teaching English and mathematics.
My students progressed well, but the program only offered limited tutoring hours whereas the students definitely needed more long-term assistance to continue or achieve their appropriate grade level skills. Despite having poor economic and environmental conditions for learning, I was pleased the students were able to demonstrate improvements in academics and attitudes.
I have extensive experience in the corporate world with varying management positions needing expertise in technical, marketing and legal writing for financial, scientific and academic entities.
I love working with students of all ages and abilities to enable them greater success in school and social areas. Not only do I teach, I have a continued interest in learning and I am always in the classroom myself. I am also an artist, doing painting, ceramics, glass, jewelry as well as needlecrafts. There's so much in the world to explore, and I'm intent on doing and learning as much as I can with great enthusiasm.
My teaching availability extends primarily in the afternoons from 3-6 p.m. but I can also teach on weekends. I try to keep teaching hours as flexible as possible, including evenings when I am not otherwise engaged in my own learning.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
