My love of teaching comes from over 13 years of experience as an elementary school teacher, with the honor of becoming a master teacher. As a Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate with a B.S. degree in Mathematics from the University of California I attended, I hold myself to a very high standard.
I take pleasure in watching students grow in knowledge. With my own two children, I have taught them to read since they were two, and I continue to enjoy enriching them in math, spelling, reading, writing, and grammar. The teaching I have provided them has prepared them for academic success. My 5th grader has been in the GATE program (Gifted and Talented Education )since 1st grade and has achieved high honors in the 2014 Talent Search with Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY). My 1st grader has already achieved a student lexile of 766 on the SRI test(Student Reading Inventory) and will be referred for GATE testing. I believe that with determination, hard work, and persistence will come success.
I look forward to hearing from you and having the opportunity to help you become successful in reaching your learning goals! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I currently hold a Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential which authorizes me to teach in grades twelve and below. I am also a certified Language Development Specialist. I have taught for over 13 years in elementary education. In addition, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at the University of California, Irvine.
I am a credentialed teacher certified to teach Kindergarten through twelfth grades. I have taught over 13 years in the elementary schools, with experience teaching phonics and reading skills to students whether they be in small reading groups or in whole class settings. I have personally taught both my daughters how to read since they were two years old, so they were able to read chapter books by the time they entered Kindergarten. I have taught them using phonics methods and techniques along with sight words. These methods incorporate teaching the child to learn all the letter sounds and blend these letter sounds to read words. To build upon that, I teach all the various consonant blends and vowel sounds which combine to form new words.
