Over thirty years as a teacher, I have learned through experience that a supportive educational environment creates a JOY for LEARNING which is the KEY to SUCCESS for every student in tutoring and in life. Naturally, I am also an experienced English, ESL, and Speech tutor. My students and parents are aware that I bring positive energy, listen to the student, and adapt to responses in each tutoring session. Confidence building activities are important in all of these subjects and activities. A plan is created for each student where ever he or she is in his or her reading, writing, and speaking skills and we all work together to create a plan to reach the needed goals.
As a successful, credentialed English teacher in California, I have taught thousands of ELEMENTARY and SECONDARY STUDENTS. I have also tutored students in school and after school plus through private tutoring companies. My specific teaching subjects in secondary have been ENGLISH, Reading, ESL, English as a Second Language, plus SPEECH and DRAMA. School assignments and related materials will be covered depending on the needs of each individual student. I love seeing students work hard and have fun learning to complete an assignment. Creativity is my strength in guiding students to figure out how to solve a problem, ways to enjoy reading a story, a book, and writing and speaking that personal story, rhyming or free verse poem, moving speech or important essay. I can be your Coach/Tutor to do whatever is required!
Besides having an English Teaching Credential, I also have a special certificate to teach English to Students who Speak other Languages. I have hundreds of good activities to use for ESL/ESOL, English, Public Speaking, Reading and Writing exercises for skill building. My current and past students plus their parents have thanked me for their many positive learning experiences. My students I have also received certificates and awards over my thirty years of teaching.
Tutoring can take place at the student's home or an agreed location in a quiet, safe and comfortable study place with an adult present as required if the student is under 18 and a minor. I look forward to hearing from you and helping your child feel good about working hard to achieve his or her goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'm qualified with a life time English teaching credential and the positive experiences of my young students. I have taught and tutored thousands of students. For school districts, I have taught/tutored students in grades k-5 in the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District and elementary theater arts and dancing (K-5) for months in the Los Angeles Unified School District. I have helped young children to enjoy reading and writing through creative activities to build their language experiences with hands on learning activities.
Qualified with a lifetime English teaching credential, I have taught secondary English (grades 6-12), ESL/ESOL, drama, and speech for over thirty years. My teaching credential and experience enables me to tutor students whatever their ability level is in order to complete their coursework and to improve their English skills. I have also taught public speaking and have coached students in theater arts and speech in preparation for school district competition. Currently as a substitute teacher, I have also taught elementary theater arts and am certified as a Laughter Yoga guide for children, college age students, and adults.
