In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a native speaker of Japanese and have been teaching the Japanese language for over a year now. I customize my lessons to accommodate the individual needs of my students. Language, of course, is interwoven with culture. I was born in Japan where I studied "ikebana" (Japanese flower arrangement) under a master teacher, and became a certified ikebana teacher myself. I also studied "koto" (the Japanese harp) with a prominent master teacher, and have taught both Japanese and Americans how to play this instrument. I believe my expertise and knowledge of Japanese culture makes me uniquely qualified to present lessons in Japanese that the student will find beneficial in expressing himself to native speakers of the language.
