A special learning studio in my home sets my program apart from clustered groups in shopping center programs, or student distractions at the student's house. The use of research based program, time tested materials, positive reinforcers, and manipulatives support my students with their goals.
I teach transitional kindergarten this year, but I have taught all lower grades for multiple years. I have a master's degree in education and a certificate in teaching advanced learners. My specialty is a unique and engaging approach in teaching children to read using stylized markings to reach early learners or struggling learners when others have not been able to help. I teach using simultaneous multi-sensory participation. If we can feel it, see it, hear it... we can remember it! This interactive teaching style has helped me teach many international students and even many three year olds to read! Some of my tutoring students have Individualized Educational Plans in school, and many have focus issues, while others just want to stay ahead of the curve and learn common core standards before they are introduced in school. I really enjoy supporting my students and families as their partner as they are navigating the educational system in pursuit of the best possible education for their child. I often have siblings who come to me, and I offer a family discount to help out. Sometimes students utilize my services for a while, then come in to see me for a "tune up" just to make sure their are no gaps in their growth. I have also consulted with school learning centers and helped hundreds of students move from below grade level to at or above.
To give more specifics, I help students increase fluency levels in reading by targeting goals with them. I support those individual needs by re-teaching and to fill "gaps" using diagnostic tests. I considering their unique learning style while helping them progress. In math, I help students understand concepts and remember how to do them in fun ways. This method gives them the ability to retain the information and be able to do this again later. My expertise is especially helpful to start young children off strong so their academic career is off to a positive start. I believe I help meet the needs of my students by addressing their learning styles including kinesthetic learning, verbal and oral learners. Thinking outside of the box is something I like to do as an educator. I have been told that my skills and my perspective combine to help students kids grow.
I became a teacher, because I love the challenge of helping students to reach their full potential. I have a passion for teaching children with little sayings or physical "helpers" that help children forever remember how to accomplish a certain skill or standard. My students often become wonderful teachers themselves because they can explain phonic patterns and math approaches so that others can learn or comprehend. I always help my students work on critical thinking and the "next" thing as I am working with them. I have trained many teachers in working with children in small groups.
Successful strategies in which I make learning a game have become my "secrets" of the trade. One of my students told me last week that he wanted to come to me each day instead of his other regular class! Teaching is an art and science combined. I have the ability to help your child when school alone is not working, or when that "next step" is not happening for them. Tutoring is a wonderful gift to a child.
I'd be happy not only to help students achieve, but to help parents help their children as well. A special learning studio in my home sets my program apart from clustered groups in shopping center programs, or student distractions at the student's house. The use of research based program, time tested materials, positive reinforcers, and manipulatives support my students with their goals.

Mrs. Debbie M is an absolutely brilliant tutor.
Having grown up with a true love for reading, I was met with a sense of failure when I couldn't pass this love for reading on to my son. (He loved to be read to, but he was lacking both the confidence and the interest to learn how to read on his own.)
I cannot begin to fully, appropriately express just how grateful I am to have found Debbie, and how fantastic her approach has been in aiding my son on his journey to literacy. Our family's schedule only permits us a tutoring session with Debbie once a week (as opposed to the recommended bi-weekly sessions), and yet my son's ability to read has begun to blossom rather quickly as soon as he began to see her.
She immediately became attuned to his charming (yet disinterested-in-reading ) personality and specific needs as a student, and has approached him with laser-sharp focus, spot-on in finding the right methods to keep him not only interested and engaged but actually learning and progressing speedily. (His teachers noticed a great improvement within the first two weeks.) The fun yet highly effective plans she designs and "master-minds" to engage my son are ingenious; she finds great opportunities to effortlessly tie in educational experiences with games, thus making the whole learning experience challenging but fun. She runs her sessions very methodically, very organized, with a specific goal for my son to have met by the end of each session. I very much appreciate the notes she hands out at the end of each session to keep me fully aware of his latest progress and goals for the next week, as well as the detailed emails I receive from her as a follow-up.
I find my son’s progress under Mrs. Debbie M’s tutelage to be not only a testament to her scholarly expertise as a professional teacher, but also a reflection of her innate passion – which encompasses a strong combination of her love for children with her love for teaching. All in all, Mrs. Debbie M attains the perfect combination of all the necessary qualities that make for the best tutor a parent could ask for.
Thank you for your detailed response and comments! It has been such a pleasure being part of his journey. He is now reading all the 1st grade sight words from a list easily, and using them when he is reading books or passages. He is using the phonics that he has mastered and remembering to use strategies to try out new words that he hasn't encountered before. I see him enjoying what he is reading, and I have seen him grow in confidence. He has learned to read and is on his way to the next "read to learn" phrase. I have so enjoyed the time with your very special young man.
This is why I tutor and teach. How lucky am I!
Thank you so much Debbie. I was extremely stressed out at our 1st meeting regarding my child's grades. Today, I'm relaxed hopeful, and excited for the future. In just four lessons, my 6th grader has gained confidence reading aloud. He's reading aloud to me as I'm writing this note. Never before!!! Unbelievable!!!!!
Today, he scored 100% in his Social Studies test. His teacher sent a note home on Tuesday about his poor performance in Social Studies. Today is Thursday.
My son is excited about the new study skills he's learning such as organizing, looking ahead, and all the fun ways to remember the material in the various subjects.
Debbie is prompt, professional, patient, and caring. She is obviously knowledgeable in academics and teaching children how to read and study. She listens to my concerns and is extremely caring. I'm so glad we found her. Thank you Debbie.
Thank you for your comments. I really feel things are going to turn around for your son and that positive growth is going to be the fuel to keep that momentum building. He is very intelligent and capable and I know that he likes seeing those 100% papers! Hopefully we can keep goal setting as part of our lessons along with the subject and study support. I will be really excited for him as he sees the results of his hard work when it shows up on his progress reports.
Since my son has started the classes with her, I have noticed a significant improvement in his reading, writing and math. Debbie is a great and very patient tutor for any child who needs help.
We have been working with Ms. Debbie for about 3 weeks now. Her techniques never cease to amaze me. Yesterday we worked on writing skills. My son needed to write sentences for his spelling words. He was still practicing spelling the words when we went to tutoring last night. Ms. Debbie provided a tip on how to spell "tion" suffixes. By the time we got home which was within 5 minutes, my son totally got the words he was struggling with correct. Went to volunteer at his school today, and he got a 100% on his test. What I liked about this particular session, was that Ms. Debbie challenged my son to think about what he wanted to write, instead of just writing a basic sentence. I am looking forward to my son becoming a more proficient writer.
I love working with both of you! It's wonderful to see a parent so understanding of how important a "strong start" is. I don't have a crystal ball, but I do think I can see great things in the future!
Our son who is in the first grade and was showing signs of falling behind, is already showing improvements in his reading and math after only couple of weeks from the one on one time with Mrs M. She is caring and was able to get our son to engage right away that learning is fun. We are so happy to be able to continue weekly lessons and look forward to his continued progress this year.
My daughter (5yrs old) just started the reading tutor with Debbie a month ago. We are very amazed with her improvement. She likes Debbie ever since the tutoring session, up until now she always excited and looking forward for the next session. Debbie knows how to interact and stimulate little kids like her to excel in reading. Overall, Debbie will be a great tutor for any kids to learn how to read.
Thanks for your feedback! It is so important to help a child start off with a strong foundation. It is wonderful to see parents, such as yourself, who understand that this is an important time for children as they become readers.
I am very happy to be part of your daughter's journey, She will continue with a plan to learn her sight word, extend her phonic knowledge (including long vowels) and digraphs. Soon she evolves from someone learning to read- to someone reading to learn. An exciting time!
Ms. Debbie is an excellent tutor who could help my son achieve a lot in short time. Yet, the best thing is that she can really make learning fun. My son always looks forward to his next lesson with her.
I'm truly thankful for finding Mrs. Debbie. The program she has to teach the kids is so good. My son enjoys going with her. He learns and it feels so good to know he is reading now, and he feels way more confident of himself in reading. This was the best decision ever made.
Thank you for your kind words. I have really enjoyed seeing your son become a reader. He is well on his way in learning all those first grade sight words and doing a great job blending to read. Starting off strong is so important, and I really feel he is going to have an excellent year!
My son loves Debbie. She was born to teach reading to creatives, visual learners.
Another great session. My son is excited about learning again.
Thank you so much Adria! I am really looking forward in the creative journey your son and I are undertaking!
We are going to fill in some of those phonic/ spelling gaps, while learning the way he likes to learn.
We are so happy and glad we picked Debbie M. to tutor are 6 year old son she has made it fun and easy. I'm so great full for what she is continuing to teach my son he has in prove so much!! I will continue to use her services also to help my other son.
My 7 year old son has been working with Debbie M. for about a month. He is a struggling reader in the second grade. I have seen more growth in his reading over the last month than in the entire last year! His anxiety over reading was worsening. He loves tutoring with Debbie and has asked me if he can stay with her longer. His exact words were that she makes learning seem like fun. His attitude towards reading has changed. He will now read with me at home without becoming upset. I know we have a lot of work ahead of us, but I finally feel like we are headed in the right direction. Debbie really has a way with working with children. If your child is having problems with reading, then I highly recommend Debbie.
Your son has grown leaps and bounds in his reading skills and with his confidence. Just last lesson he read almost 70 words a minute after practicing a passage with only 1 error. We are seeing goals met with focus, phonics knowledge, sight word mastery, and fluency. He has acquired so many new skills. I love working with him as well and appreciate his enthusiastic nature in our approach together as we create the reader that I know he wants to become. I am looking forward to seeing him grow even more!
Debbie has been an excellent tutor. Ever since she began tutoring my daughter her vocabulary and reading skills have improved dramatically. My daughter loves her company and looks forward to her classes everyday. Debbie has helped my daughter develop both socially and academically. I will recommend her to any parent who is looking for a private tutor.
Thank you for your very kind words. It has been such a pleasure seeing your daughter grow. She loves to learn! I have enjoyed all of our lessons together and I know wonderful things are to come for this special little girl!
Debbie has been tutoring my 7 year old son twice a week for a month now. His confidence has improved significantly, his ability to sound out words and break them down continues to evolve. He looks forward to spending time with Debbie and he feels like she is making a difference. The tools Debbie use to keep him engaged and progressing are great and valuable. Thanks Debbie for all your hard work and we look forward to continuing to work with you.
Thank you for your feedback! I can't begin to tell you how proud I am of your son. He gets right to work at giving his very best effort, and his confidence is growing tremendously! He was so proud the other day when he read a passage and passed up that 100 words per minute mark. He is not guessing during reading and using strategies. Soon he will have mastered his high frequency words for the year! I see wonderful things ahead for him and it is a pleasure working with him to help him reach for his full potential!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught Elementary Education for over 14 years and currently am teaching! I love what I do and know how to creatively engage my students to master standards for lasting confidence and success in their academic careers. My students' achievements are demonstrated on their high standardized test scores. More importantly, my students (who are forever my students) are people who enjoy learning!
I have been teaching phonic, reading, and all language skills in my classroom for 14 years. My ESL students are often my highest students! I use lots or visuals in my teaching and I check for understanding during every point in my lessons. I love communicating with my ESL parents and using my Spanish as they are trying to communicate with me as well in their second language!
I have a Masters degree in Education with a reading emphasis. and a specialist certificate for advanced learners.I have taught children to read for over 18 years. I teach the key standards and skills for phonics and sight words which leads to fluent reading success. I have even successfully taught 3 year olds to read sounds, blends, and digraphs, as well as long vowel sounds in order to read. I have worked with students in grades K through 12 grade to improve and gain in their reading fluency. I have worked with tutoring centers to help improve and strengthen their instructional practices. My student outcomes have involved success of growth from intensive to benchmark or challenge levels after a tutoring plan has been administered. Phonics are fun. It really is simple to me, but I have been sharing my formula to many for years. Children "connect" to my stories and stylized markings. They use these to write and learn with. These connections help them learn until the skill is automatic.
I teach reading skills using stylized markings and secret stories that will have my reader learning and laughing. They can recall the story related to the phonic or visualize what is taught. Soon they are applying when reading...and even better reading when other methods just didn't work for them. I fill in the gaps they have and help with sight words. My readers become experts at phonics. I use diagnostics to find out exactly what is missing with a student and add interesting fluency practice. Making learning a game is my specialty. Teaching reading is my passion.
