Texas A&M University (Landscape Architectu)
Greetings! I graduated from Texas A&M University (TAMU) in 2005. Along with my major, I excel at language study, as languages have always been a great love and talent of mine. I can speak, read and write Spanish, speak Italian well enough, and am also very good with English grammar and essay writing. My other subjects of strength include life sciences (biology, ecology); basic math (algebra); and music theory.
My approach to teaching as a tutor is simple. I try to understand a student's difficulty and explain the subject in a way he or she can understand. Each one is unique and I can tailor my method to suit each person. I can create practice scenarios and check them once a student completes them, provide study material, or use a student's own.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been using AutoCAD (currently 2015 version) for 10+ years now, since college, and then in my professional industry of Landscape Architecture. I know LandFX plugin as well: planting, irrigation, details, construction, plotting, and full construction document setup.
I know many commands and keyboard shortcuts; creating blocks; importing images and xrefs; plotting setup for printer, PDF or plot files; and adjusting settings. For my own amusement, I also use it for interior design, fixtures, symmetrical art designs, and even costume props.
I DO NOT know the tools or plugins used by civil engineers or architects, only those for Landscape Architecture.
I taught myself HTML over 10 years ago, and have since been improving my knowledge with books and online resources. I prefer to write code by hand, to make things cleaner, but also use DreamWeaver. I can teach how to code basic pages, headings, tables, images and links. I am currently learning the new HTML5.
My passion for martial arts began when I was a kid. I took Korean Tae Kwon Do for 7 years, getting to the rank of 2nd Black Belt. During this time I taught many students over a wide range of age (from 4 to 70), learned the five Japanese kobudo weapons, small-circle jiu-jitsu, and escrima sticks. During college I conducted self-defense seminars, teaching girls how to defend against fist holds, knives and guns.
After I transferred to Texas A&M University, I developed a great interest in historic sword combat, and founded the TAMU chapter of Association of Renaissance Martial Arts (ARMA), of which I was president for the first year. We practiced many combat techniques taught by the the ARMA President John Clements, experimented with our own, and made battle practice weapons.
Currently I practice Wushu, or traditional Chinese Kung Fu, and sometimes Taiji (aka Tai Chi). We do fist forms, and many weapons (spear, straight sword, staff, pudao, northern and southern swords). I love martial arts!
I have been a writer for many years. I have written fiction, poetry, essays on literatures, blogs, and done technical writing. I know grammar and parts of speech very well, having been drilled on them well when I was in school. Additionally, as an audiobook narrator, I have proofed the works of published authors whose books I read, correcting errors their editors had missed.
I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2005 with a major in Landscape Architecture. During my studies I did a lot of class presentations for my designs. I also took a speech class, in which I did very well.
After moving to San Diego, I volunteered for the whaling season in 2007 with the San Diego Natural History Museum. I gave presentations about the whales, showed props, and answered questions. Most recently, I have been volunteering at the San Diego Zoo, where I teach about the animals of the Elephant Odessey. These presentations have to be tailored and changed to suit each visitor or type of visitor. Lastly, I was a guest speaker at Texas A&M for a freshmen introductory class.
I have become quite comfortable with public speaking and can give pointers for being more effective and keeping your audience's attention.
