I have taught elementary and middle school for 10+ years and now teach individuals and groups of students - both kids who go to public or private school as well as homeschooled students. I do quite a bit of math enrichment for elementary students including Algebra I. I create challenging lessons - that are fun! - for elementary students who are already excelling in math in grades K-8, and I help bring those who are lagging up to speed and feel confident in and enjoy math! I also am a writing teacher and coach, and I help students learn to express themselves in a meaningful way and love writing! I am a writer, and I also teach teachers how to teach writing and grammar in ways that are meaningful and fun and that really work! Plus, I have a specialized vocabulary program that has also been very successful. I also teach civics, social studies, and current events. In addition, I can help your child learn organizational skills and study skills.
I find teaching inspiring, and I love how students learn and benefit. I usually recommend one-and-a-half to two-hour blocks of time, because the students and I get immersed and engaged in working and then the time flies by! However, I can do whatever works best for each family and student.
Let me know if you would like to schedule a time to talk about your individual student and what your goals are for him or her, and I will let you know how I can help. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I love teaching math! I have a lot of experience and have had a lot of success teaching math; I taught all abilities in 6th grade math, along with all subjects, for nine years, and I teach teachers how to make math meaningful for them and help them succeed. I have had many math students - I teach math enrichment, where I individualize lessons to challenge students in fun and meaningful ways to help them excel, as well as math remediation and skill building.
I have taught reading for 15 years. My approach is to help students love to read and find meaning in it. I have had much success helping students improve their reading comprehension and love reading.
I have taught study skills for many years. I taught all subjects in 6th and 8th grades for eleven years, including organization and study skills. Teaching students how to study and learn is my forte, and it translates to all subjects. In fact, I do professional development workshops for teachers on how to guide students in studying in ways that utilize best practices that are individualized for each student. Teaching students how to study and retain information is one of my fortes.
