Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Arabic

I have been around the Arabic language for many years. In addition to classes many years ago, I have recently finished two intensives at UCLA: First and Second Year Modern Standard Arabic. After that I did two research trips to Egypt. During the first I picked up Arabic in daily life and during the second, I studied at the language institute, Kalimat. I am a very well qualified first year teacher in MSA and in beginning colloquial Egyptian Arabic. I have been teaching beginning Arabic through Community Services.

Elementary (K-6th)

I was a substitute teacher for K-6 elementary education for over 15 years. I have also taught after-school programs and had my own second grade classroom one year.

ESL/ESOL

I have work unofficially with foreign students helping them with English pronunciation. In addition I worked for an ESL institute in the States as well as taught English at an Egyptian High School.

Proofreading

I have been an editor of a small magazine and was editor-in-chief of my college newspaper. Recently I have been proofreading the dissertations of fellow students before they are submitted.

Religion

I am currently a PhD candidate in Religious Studies. My areas of expertise are women and gender issues in religion, Islamic studies and Goddess/Nature religions.
