I worked as a middle school math teacher in Florida for 5 years. I taught high school for 1 year and elementary school for another year before I started tutoring exclusively. I have helped hundreds of 3rd graders pass the reading portion of the FCAT. This test is mandatory for promotion in Florida. I help ease anxiety and build the confidence your child needs to succeed. I conducted workshops across the state of Florida including the Upward Bound, Crop, and Care programs at Florida State University. I have a dedicated mission to educating and empowering students. I have tutored thousands of high school students in SAT and ACT prep at CLM Learning Solutions. I have conducted hundreds of 8 person and individual sessions as well as conducted many 25 student workshops to teach strategies for standardized test. I believe that every learner is different and instruction should be tailor-made to the specific needs of each student. I have a passion to see your kids succeed.
At a local magnet middle school in 2003, I posted one of the highest increases in Math scores in the state of Florida. My math class ranked in the top 6 for FCAT mean scores for the entire state of Florida The only schools that had higher averages were schools for the gifted.
I build confidence and generate excitement about the subject matter I tutor. Please contact me to begin your journey toward even greater success!!! Calvin is tutoring our son who is in middle school. He is an excellent teacher and it is very clear that he has much experience in tutoring kids. He explains things clearly and his teaching style is supportive and very positive. I also like the fact that he is constantly checking for understanding and asks my son to explain a concept back to him- he doesn't simply give questions and point out wrong answers. In short, he is fabulous and I would highly recommend Calvin to anyone needing a math tutor for his child.
My son is fairly reserved when it comes to his feelings and descriptions of other people and their abilities and personalities. I feel comfortable in saying that my son was glowing with praise for Calvin after meeting with him for 90 minutes. By far the best tutor that we have used in this program and would continue to use him and recommend him.
My daughter just had her 1st lesson with Calvin, Wonderful Tutor !! He's very nice and patient, very professional, she's looking forward for her 2nd one,
Today I had my first tutor session with Calvin; it was a great experience and I have already learned a lot. He knew exactly how to motivate me, as well as how to adjust my approach to the test based off of my skills and cognitive tendencies as an individual. I refound my motivation to be a competitor in taking the ACT and put in my 110% effort to succeed; he really helped me overcome roadblocks that I have consistently faced in raising my score. These problems included issues in my mindset and confidence. I highly recommend Calvin if you are looking for an engaging tutor who has the experience and knowledge to provide you with the best guidance in reaching for your goals.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
