University of Cape Town, South Africa (Linguistics, English)
As the daughter of a language educator, I have known from a very early age that teaching language to others is an important and inspiring occupation. I have my own experience in teaching children of various ages, as well as at a university level as a TA.
In terms of teaching younger students, I have experience as an assistant teacher within both the Montessori and Waldorf educational frameworks which have motivated me to instil creativity and inspiration in the student. As a TA, I enjoyed supporting a friendly and comfortable environment among my students, promoting discussion and critical thinking.
I have a Bachelor's Degree with English and Linguistics majors. Thus, I have experience in being a literature student myself as well as in teaching language while keeping the processes of language acquisition in mind.
Not only am I a native speaker of English and Russian, but I have formally studied both as well. Furthermore, growing up around 'Russian as a Second Language' teaching has allowed me to absorb various pedagogical skills specific to this rich and dynamic language. I have since applied these skills during informal lessons with friends and others. I have also formally studied French since 2005.
I am an avid language learner myself and I am excited to inspire and guide students in this rewarding and valuable journey! Please contact me with any questions; I look forward to hearing from you. In terms of teaching
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a native Russian speaker. I have studied the language formally - both under my mother, a certified Russian language teacher, as well as at the Russian embassy school in South Africa. I also have degrees in Linguistics and English and experience teaching both. I have tutored Russian informally and have done translation and interpretation work between Russian and English.
