My Summer schedule still have several openings although several students have started review for old classes and preview for new classes. Please contact me if you are interested in any review or preview from pre-Algebra through Multi-variate Calculus.
I have years of Math tutoring (no Statistics) experience in Tri-Valley area including new Common Core contents in Algebra II, pre-Calculus and Calculus for the MS and HS in Pleasanton.
Thanks for your support.
I am an experienced Math tutor (Math Ph.D from US, 8+ recent years, 250+ students), have been college instructor and software engineer. I have helped students succeed from the most difficult to the most elementary Math courses. I have an unmatched Math (with technical) background and know many issues of learning Math in general and any particular class. I was admitted to UCB Math PhD program (but chose Purdue PhD for some reason). Some of my students eventually go to top colleges (UCB (>=5 including 2 in 2015), Davis, UOP, U Chicago, UT Austin). Others did learn the basic Math they needed in their jobs and lives. My rates are very reasonable given what I could do to help. Many of my students are taking Hon. Math classes and I have my own collection of problems at or exceeding the level written by myself or adapted from popular textbooks. I have good knowledge of the Math classes taught at local HS (e.g. AVHS, FHS, DVHS and CalHS) and the textbook they use.
Please read on for more detail.
I have tutored and helped college students since undergrad in the 80s and substantially in the last 7 years, on all HS Math classes (many Honors). I have a Math PhD (and MS in EE, CS) from Purdue and taught various courses before and after graduation, and regularly at San Jose State U (Calculus III for Fall 2012) and junior colleges.
Calculus: I have many Calculus students (AP and non-AP) and taught Calculus II, III at SJSU. I know many issues of learning Calculus and have effective solutions. I also wrote 5 sections for a free Calculus textbook. On top of 4 standard Calculus courses, I have taken several graduate level Analysis courses (real and complex variables, topology, measure theory).
Honors class and Math competition: I have helped many Honors class students with extra practices and drills I set myself. One of my student also got first in MathCounts in his city.
Basic: I have taught students (many of them adults) the basics of Math (4 operations, fraction, decimal) systematically so they gained valuable skills in their jobs and lives.
I can help in these areas: pre-Algebra, (Honors) Algebra I & II, Geometry (with proofs), pre-Calculus, Calculus (AP, College, 3-D) , Linear Algebra, Probability, Physics* (lower class), and Java*.
*I have very intensive training in mechanics including kinematics, Newton's Laws (with friction) and statics. I also have taken graduate courses in electromagnetism and optics. I worked on applications research and system software (e.g. Open Source) to support applications including the Java (and J2ME, an old version of Android) and Bluetooth communication stacks. My Summer schedule still have several openings although several students have started review for old classes and preview for new classes. I am struggling profusely in Honors Pre Calculus. Through my sessions with him, the time in those hours were used to the max (very reliable and accommodating). I have my test tomorrow, and I feel pretty confident (unlike the last two tests, where I was completely lost). He shows me different but EASIER ways to solve the problems, differing my teacher's methods, and explains why it works. Recommend!
Chuntak was very patient with my son, performed some assessment, and adjust the tutoring session to fit his needs. Will continue with Chuntak. Thanks!
Even though I only had one lesson with him, Chuntak showed me that it wasn't that I didn't know what I was doing but I needed more practice, especially with integration by parts formulas. His advice has helped me a lot and I am very confident that in my next quiz I will be able to score at least 50/60 from 24/60. I will probably ask for more help from him in the future.
Chuntak is a very patient and intelligent calculus tutor. He explains the problems step by step and it made me understand it clearer. He is very punctual and it is pretty easy to reach him by phone, text message and email. When it comes to complicated problems, he would break it down and guide you through the problem. I would really recommend him to anyone who has a weak mathematics foundation like me.
Chuntak is an outstanding tutor with incredible knowledge in math. His price is worth every penny if you need help with math, because he can cover literally everything that you need. He has a drive to help you succeed in the sessions, so no time is lost. He is also a great person to work with as well. I recommend Chuntak to anyone struggling with math because he can help you get over the hump to reach your goals.
My son has been tutored by Mr. F. for the past 2 months. Mr. F. is very patient, methodical, and takes time to explain concepts. My son is making progress thanks to Mr. F.
I was a little unsure on how the tutoring session would go. I had a bad experience with the tutoring program over at the college and I didn't want to spend money and have the same thing happen. I was pleasantly surprised! Douglas was very patient with me in explaining how to solve word programs and provided me get tips and suggestions on how to approach them. We worked on a few to where I gained a better understanding for them. Douglas then covered how to solve for variables which were unknown to me. I found my session with Douglas to be productive and will contact him again in the near future should the need arises.
After missing some school days due to an illness my son fell behind in his AP Calculus class and had difficulty catching up. It was a situation that snowballed and he wound up with a "D" in a mid-year progress report. I found Wyzant, and more importantly, I found Chuntak. After each tutoring session I could tell my son was feeling more and more confident. He no longer dreaded going to class. He had a much better understanding of the material, and he told me it was because of his tutor. The results: my son ended up with a B+ in the class, a score of 5 in his AP Calculus exam, and a perfect 800 on the Math section of the SAT. Chuntak really turned things around for my son and we are so grateful for his patience and skills. I couldn't be more happy and highly recommend Chuntak!
It was great lesson for my daughter, she was struggling in the Honor Algebra 1. After Chuntak's 2 tutor sessions, she got full score on her last test yesterday. She gained her confidence back on math. Thanks for Chuntak's help, it was a great experience for us.
Great teacher, knowledgeable, patient. My daughter needed him, she improved. I really appreciate everything he has taught her, I recommend him to any serious student who needs to improve.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have recent Hon. Algebra I students in the Pleasanton school district. I could explain the main points precisely and concisely (Algebra is my PhD area). I also provide extra practice and drill problems. My students show clear improvement in understanding and technical Algebraic skills.
I have 5+ recent Hon. Algebra II students in Pleasanton and Danville school district. I could explain the main points precisely and concisely (Algebra is my PhD area). All have improved in their understanding and in various degree their grades. I provide extra practice and drill problems.
I have substantial experience tutoring Calculus (including AP, AB/BC) and Multivariate Calculus. I have taught Calculus II
at San Jose St. U and wrote a few sections for a Calculus textbook. I myself have several advanced graduate analysis course on top of 4 Calculus courses, including Real and Complex variables, Measure Theory, Differential Geometry.
I have several recent Geometry students (HS or middle school) using the Holt, Glencoe or Jurgensen textbook. I can help with the basic problems thru drills whether it is proof-intensive or
Geometry with Coordinate Geometry. I will also emphasize the technique of concentrating on special parts of diagrams (one part at a time).
