About Nick

I obtained my Bachelor's degree from UCLA in Pure Mathematics as well as my Master's degree in Education from Cal State Fullerton. Moreover, I have enthusiastically enjoyed tutoring for the past 10 years and was once a high school teacher in the classroom for 5 years. My experience is unrivaled due to the fact that I accomplished earning the National Board Certification for Adolescence and Young Adulthood in Mathematics. My passion is to develop and nurture a premature liking for math through a private, one-on-one environment for every one of my students.

Even before the popularity of online tutoring, my lessons, both in the classroom and outside, were technologically influenced; I provided PowerPoint slides to geometrically (sorry for the pun) ideas in organized procedures, created apps that outlined different strategies to arrive at a solution for all types of levels of proficiency, and allowed my material to be accessible in a variety of picture and video format such that my students could revisit topics at their own pace however many times they desired.

If you are sick and tired and hating math, contact me. I assure you that you will at least understand the material... maybe even start to like the subject (just a little bit).

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I obtained my Bachelor's in Pure Mathematics from UCLA. Moreover, I accomplished receiving my Master's degree in Education from CSUF. I have taught algebra in the classroom for 5 years at the high school level; I was also a teacher's assistant in special education supporting in algebra at the middle school level for 2 years.

Algebra 2

I have a Bachelor's in Pure Mathematics from UCLA. I also have a Master's degree in Education from CSUF. I have taught algebra and geometry in the classroom for 5 years and 4 years, respectively. In addition to that, I have been tutoring for 10 years. My tutoring methods incorporate utilizing technology through PowerPoints, Flash illustrations, recorded anticipatory lessons in video/audio format.

Elementary Math

In order to teach mathematics in CA, one must prove efficiency by passing the California Basic Educational Skills Test; hence, by obtaining my teaching credential, I demonstrated my qualification in the math sections. Over all, the math sections tested my mastery in the cumulative knowledge traditionally taught in elementary school. Specifically, about 40% of the questions are related to arithmetic, about 20% related to elementary geometry, and the remaining items are related to other mathematical concepts and skills at the elementary math level.

Geometry

Teaching geometry in California demands that an educator exemplify proficiency in the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) subjects: Foundational-Level Mathematics Subtest I & II. Since I have passed both subtests, I proved my understanding of the mathematics content areas: general mathematics, algebra, geometry, probability and statistics, and consumer mathematics. Moreover, the dissertation that I defended in order to acquire my Master's degree in Education focused primarily on teaching the subject matter of geometry.

Prealgebra

In order to teach pre-algebra in California, an educator must exemplify proficiency by passing the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) subjects: Foundational-Level Mathematics Subtest I & II. Since I have taught pre-algebra for a total of 3 years, I believe that my qualification speaks for itself. Furthermore, I have been privately tutoring pre-algebra for more than 7 years with the aid of manipulatives including, but not limited to: algebra tiles, fraction tiles, and pattern blocks, offering a tactual-kinesthetic experience to solidify retaining math concepts.

SAT Math

I worked for a SAT Prep company titled Eureka Review, specializing in the math portion of the SAT for 4 years. Moreover, I have many SAT workbooks at my disposal to use during the tutoring sessions with your child. Each workbook is update date as the SAT has been renovated recently including SAT Prep books from Kaplan, CollegeBoard, and McGraw-Hill filled with practice examinations.

Trigonometry

Teaching trigonometry in California demands that an educator exemplify proficiency in the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) subjects: Mathematics Subtests I, II, & III. Since I have passed all three subtests, the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) authorized my capability to teach all mathematics coursework. Moreover, since I have obtained my Bachelor's in Pure Mathematics from UCLA, I tend to favor the higher level math classes.

Knowledgable

Nick is super sharp and very helpful. We went over a few things in subspaces and vector spaces. If I had trouble understanding what was being taught, he always had another way to explain it.
