Are you frustrated with your performance? Or do you just need a bit more help?

I like making learning fun, interactive, effective, guilt-free, and stress-free. I've been tutoring lots of students of all ages. I'd love helping you to learn.

Let me mention some of my experiences. I'm a UC Berkeley grad in Psychology, focused on Learning and Memory. I've gained a Master's degree focused on Training and Life Change. Having an emergency teacher's credential I've substitute taught in classrooms...

Having an emergency teacher's credential I've substitute taught in classrooms for nearly two decades. I've passed the test for math teachers--the CSET math sections I & II. I formerly taught for Princeton Review as a SAT prep instructor. (Incidentally, they hired me because I taught a magic trick in my audition). I've spent a couple dozen years tutoring K-6, Jr. & Sr. High, & adult learners. Essentially, my students stick with me and tell their friends about me.

Enough about me. For you we can either focus on simply getting you past your next test or on mastering the material. Either way, let's bring fun and effectiveness into your learning process.

General Computer

My computing experience dates back to the Commodore-64, purchased at Toys-R-Us. I now use laptops, desktops, and tablets with Windows, Apple, and Android operating systems. My home has a WLAN connecting printers, TV, and computers to each other and the internet. If only some of what I've mentioned above makes sense, don't fret. I enjoy making things understandable. After all, I've had to grow in my knowledge from essentially a glorified toy computer to my present devices. It had to make sense to me, so I like making it sensible to others as well. Let me know if I can help you with patience and effectiveness.

Yes, yes. English Grammar is a problem for many of us. If you are troubled by goofy grammatical guidelines then you are not alone! I recall a change in my attitude toward grammar when I came to understand that it is all about communicating well with people. Grammar is about honoring people and ideas. I would love the privilege of working with you. We can focus on your grammar weaknesses or on some writing project on which you are working. Either way, I would like to help.

Elementary Education

Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

I have an emergency teacher's credential which includes K-6. In that capacity I've taught all subjects both individually and in the classroom. I enjoy young kids and like to make our learning experience fun and effective. Teachers I've subbed for ask me back time and again. The students who know me get excited to know I'm to be their sub teacher. We cover the material and have a good time. Even the parents are pleased to know I'm their child's substitute teacher.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I've tutored many kids in math. I've been a substitute teacher in the classroom. I passed the CSET for math levels 1 & 2. Most of my tutoring students are among the kids I've gotten to know in the classroom, are referred by other parents, or just see me working with another student. I like to make our times both fun and productive.

I enjoy teaching the careful analysis of reading material. Knowing various literary techniques and styles brings a greater enjoyment of the intention of an author. Reading is the primary key to self-teaching and delight directed learning. Let me know if I can help.

I use the SOAR methodology for 3rd through 12th grade. With this I cover goal settings, the learning styles, and relative and unique strengths of the student. We work on organizing a binder, places to study, and time management by means of a planner. Finally, study and note taking strategies are learned. I generally prefer to use about 10 to 12 hours of instruction.

English

English,

English

English can either be a great bore or the gateway to learning. I recall as a college freshman the day I had a life altering epiphany. I realized for the first time that English is not really about reading the works of long dead writers. It is even less about sloshing through obscure grammatical rules. I realized that English is about caring for people. We care for others by understanding their speech and writing; communicating our ideas clearly; and using grammar that prevents confusion. What a concept! This great insight has fueled my desire to master and help others master English. Can I help you? Oh yes... I passed freshman English with an "A" and have since gained a Master's degree in oratory and instructional communication.

Great tutor! Tom is patient, compassionate, personable and gets the job done!

I was very impressed with Tom. He understood what was needed and provided the tools necessary to accomplish the goal. I would hire him again in a second. If you need a tutor, I recommend that you consider Tom. You will be pleased that you did!

Dianne, 4 lessons with Tom

Excellent tutor.

Tom is an outstanding tutor. He makes my son talk to him. Our previous tutors just sit in front of my son and let him do his homework without talking. Tom actually teaches my son and has conversation with him. He can explain Algebra 2 in different ways that my son can understand. Tom also teaches my son how to study, so that he can review on all his other subjects even without his tutor. Our appreciation Tom the Tutor.

Great first impression

This is our first time using a tutor, and we are glad we chose Tom. He seems like a very sincere and patient person. He knows his stuff, and makes you feel comfortable around him. These are all important traits in a tutor. So far, my son is happy with him, and I feel confident that my son will be better at math.
