I grew up in Petaluma and still know many of the teachers at both Casa Grande and Petaluma High personally. Having tutored students at all levels from both high schools I am familiar with the curriculum and teaching styles that are experienced in local math classrooms. Having recently taken the same courses from the same teachers myself, I am very familiar with what it takes to succeed.
AP students: I have recent experience taking and passing the AP exams with high marks and have stayed up-to-date on what is currently required to score well on these exams.
I provide tutoring in all levels of high school math from Algebra 1/2 all the way through AP Calculus and AP Stats, as well as a wide variety of college level math courses.
I hold a joint B.S. in Mathematics and Economics. I'm generally available for tutoring in the evening throughout the week and on the weekends depending on scheduling.
I look forward to getting in touch with you to see how I can best help you meet your math-related goals! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a joint B.S. in Mathematics and Economics. I have experience tutoring students in Algebra 1 ranging from middle school through high school. I find that students learn well if they see an example then perfect a skill by completing progressively more difficult problems. Teaching Algebra 1 is fulfilling to me because it provides the basis for continuation in math and without learning solid fundamentals, students will falter as they advance into more difficult concepts and courses.
I hold a joint B.S. in Mathematics and Economics. I have experience tutoring students in Algebra 2 ranging from middle school through high school. Algebra 2 is often challenging for students because it requires them to use skills they have not recently needed or practiced. Typically the path to success involves re-strengthening these former skills in order to move towards more difficult concepts. Teaching Algebra 2 is fulfilling to me because it provides a good opportunity to re-learn/solidify math fundamentals while also utilizing those skills to perform more difficult and in-depth problems/concepts.
Teaching pre-calculus is fulfilling to me because students are really beginning to use the full breadth of math skills that they have been developing over the last several years while also getting a look into future calculus concepts that they will soon begin to learn; this cross-roads is an exciting time for any math student!
I have experience tutoring students in AP Stats. Stats is a subject that many people struggle with because it is very different from other traditional math courses. Stats is best learned by hearing an experienced statistician say the right words in the right ways and by working through "real life" examples in order to help the student relate to the concepts.
