I am a compassionate tutor with the intention of making the learning experience positive, informative, and fun! I focus on building confidence and skill level so the student is empowered to eventually tackle the subject matter on his or her own. My primary approach is to create lesson plans tailored to each student's abilities and ways of learning. In this way I can tap into the student's strengths to help overcome the weaknesses.
I have a bachelor's degree from Stanford University and an MBA from UCLA. I have over five years of tutoring experience in English, math, and French. I have worked with the most challenged of students and watched them improve rapidly. I look forward to helping your child succeed! Hillary is always so patient with my daughter, who sometimes doesn't want to sit with a tutor. Hillary has a gentle way of talking with her & getting her out of her mood. We appreciate all the work Hillary has been doing with our daughter. She is making good progress. Thanks Hillary!
I had the opportunity to have Hillary as my tutor for math. She is a very kind and patient person. Her teaching style is great, she really breaks things down so that anyone can understand. Shes a very good teacher . I would highly recommend her to anyone who's looking for a wonderful tutor.
Hillary is very nice and knowledgeable. Both my boys (ages 12 and 6) love working with her. She is very relatable and calming. Highly recommended!
Our first meeting was just to meet and have a short tutoring session but from this meeting, we now have a plan and strategy for the summer. Very encouraged and looking forward to more tutoring.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I grew up in Europe and attended the local schools there. I learned to speak French fluently before English. I also majored in French and Italian Literatures in college.
I have used an Apple computer since 1984. I use the Mac for all of my computer needs (email, internet use, writing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), accounting (Quicken and Quickbooks), music (iTunes) etc. on a daily basis. I also own an iPad. I have taught many friends and family members how to use the Mac and iPad, and help with trouble-shooting issues that come up with Macs at work.
In all of the companies or organizations I have worked for, regardless of my position in that company, I was always the "professional proofreader," the one asked to provide the final review before a document was presented to the public.
