I am currently attending Cuesta College studying to be an Environmental Engineer with the hopes of transferring to Cal Poly. I took General Chemistry during my first year of college and during high school I took a basic physics course. I have just completed Calculus III and all math courses leading up to this course. I graduated Paso Robles High School with a GPA of 3.6 and have finished my third semester of Cuesta College with a cumulative GPA of 3.2. While I was in High School I took the ACT and the SAT, where I got a 28 and 1790 respectively.
My tutoring experience consists of two students, one was in 9th grade and needed help in algebra 1 while the other was in 1st grade and was struggling with basic Math and English. I spent slightly more than a semester tutoring the 9th grader, during this time I explained to some of the concepts and procedures that he needed to complete problems that he was unsure of. With my help he was able to improve his overall test scores and was able to pass Algebra 1 as a result. My favorite thing about tutoring is noticing the progress students make during the course of the sessions and the overall impact it has on their comprehension of the material. I also enjoy seeing students succeed and that encourages me to do whatever I can to help the student understand the material and succeed in their courses.
Currently I am enrolled in one of the highest math courses offered at Cuesta College, and have successfully completed all courses leading up to Calculus III. In many of these courses I have received a B or better and I have learned enough to successfully explain concepts and help them understand how to solve difficult problems. At Cuesta College I have just completed a course called CSS 168 with an A, which spends 9 weeks providing students with the skills needed to be an effective tutor and teaches them the different methods of tutoring. Upon completing this course I have developed a tutoring style that centers around providing the student with a deeper level of understanding of the material. I also employ the different learning strategies to make sure students who learn more effectively when exposed to different techniques will be able to remember the material.
I can tutor students in all math courses up to Calculus III, as well as Chemistry and basic physics. While I have not yet tutored a wide variety of students, I am comfortable tutoring students of any age and can adjust my strategies based on the age of the student and how quickly they can grasp the material. I look forward to working with you, and will gladly assist you with any courses you are struggling with and help you succeed in your courses.
