About Jeana

I attend the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), which is one of the most prestigious and challenging institutions in the world. It's pretty tough, but working hard and collaborating with friends makes it rewarding. Although I have a very strong technical background, I'm also very interested in creative pursuits like reading, writing, and making art. I've tutored in both formal and casual contexts, to volunteer and for pay, and for SATs but also for more general topics. Because I'm friendly, personable, and very understanding, I'm able to adapt to each individual's learning style and figure out how to help them in the best way I can.

I genuinely love teaching people things from how to solve a math equation to how to fold a crane to how to resolve relationship issues, because helping others (as cheesy as it is to say) genuinely makes me feel really great. I truly enjoy seeing someone's progress and watching their confidence grow, because success in one subject spills over into success in other areas and that's a wonderful thing.

I'm very understanding and communicative of others' needs, so I am generally flexible with scheduling and accommodations. I also have informally worked with people through their social anxiety issues, so I'm pretty experienced at putting people at ease and helping them open up.

In high school, I earned 5's on AP Calculus AB and BC exams. Throughout college, I have been applying very advanced calculus techniques for things like complex analysis contour evaluation and electromagnetic wave calculations.

I have previously enjoyed coursework in psychology, but I also continue to read academic journals about modern psychology studies.

I had an 800 on my SAT reading test, and I have a knack for breaking down concepts and helping others analyze things in a methodical way.

I am very patient and instructive when helping people learn basic computer skills. I have helped some of my mother's friends who were from a different generation navigate through the first intimidating part of learning how to operate a computer well.

Feel free to message me about anything. I will do my very best to promptly send a helpful reply. I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully working with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Strong algebra skills beginning in elementary school prep. I am now a student at the California Institute of Technology, a prestigious university that is consistently in the top rankings for colleges worldwide. The rigorous requirements for math and science to get into this school are quite high. Additionally, regardless of one's major, Caltech mandates a core curriculum that has given me a breadth and depth of learning across subjects. Also my teaching style is about deep understanding rather than just writing down simple answers that don't make sense.

Algebra 2

Caltech undergraduate student, tutored others in various levels of mathematics

Calculus

Tutored calculus, 5s on AP exams, Caltech undergraduate student

CBEST

With a strong knowledge base of mathematics, science, writing, and reading, I have been able to prepare many people for a variety of standardized tests. Because the CBEST will test "educators' basic reading, writing, and mathematics skills in the English language", my high level of education and teaching experience in tutoring SAT, PSAT, AP, and PSAT students would enable me to teach and guide an aspiring educator.

After completing sample tests with ease and reviewing all of the standards tested, I am able to confidently state that I am well-qualified to prepare students for both the content and the techniques required to approach the CBEST.

Elementary Math

Summer camp counselor (40+ hrs/wk assisting w science classes for K-8 children)

General Computer

I have been able to gently introduce inexperienced computer users to more complicated programs. Some of my clients were older with very little experience at all and I was able to patiently guide them. Additionally, I made very helpful papers and printouts to teach and refresh my students. I am a student at the California Institute of Technology, a prestigious university that is consistently in the top rankings for colleges worldwide.

Geometry

Caltech undergraduate, tutoring experience

Microsoft Excel

As a long time user of Microsoft office, I am well-qualified to assist others in mastering these programs. In the past, I have helped people of all ages with computer skills and am a patient teacher. I have also taken a financial accounting class and will be able to provide guidance for more advanced spreadsheets.

Prealgebra

Caltech undergraduate student with strong math background, experienced tutoring high school students, good interpersonal skills

Precalculus

As a Caltech undergraduate, I have tutored and assisted with many different types of mathematics. My advanced level of academic achievement allows me to see a bigger picture of learning a subject. Because of this, I can prepare students with a broader and more intuitive understanding of precalculus. This would enable them to succeed in creating a foundation of skills that allows them to tackle learning calculus and more math courses down the road

SAT Reading

I received an 800 on the SAT reading test when I took it. However more importantly, I am very patient and considerate of my students' needs in terms of identifying the right techniques. I don't teach cheats and tricks, I teach deeper analysis for overall understanding.

Trigonometry

I am attending the California Institute of Technology, a very prestigious world-ranked university that specializes in math, science, and other technical fields. Because of this, my trigonometry skills have been tested over and over again. I am well-prepared to teach and guide students in an organized and intuitive manner to approaching trigonometry problems and creating strategies to study for exams.
