Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Composition (Music)

I work as a professional composer, arranger, and orchestrator for theater and film. I have written two original musicals, vocal/dance arrangements, and have orchestrated countless theater shows. I know how to write for all instruments, the voice, and create music/arrangements/orchestrations with balanced sound, proper form, and proper music engraving procedures.

General Music

I have a Master of Music Degree in Musicology. I have taken advanced courses in music theory, composition, music history, performance and research. I currently work as a professor of music.

Music History

I hold a Masters degree in Musicology. While in college I studied the history of Western music from the Medieval era to the present, jazz, and musical history as well. I am a professor of music.

Music Theory

I was trained in college in all aspects of music theory. I know basic harmonic analysis all the way up to advanced Schenkerian analysis. I can recognize and categorize musical forms, harmonies, and counterpoint in any given piece of music.

Songwriting

As a songwriter I have written two musicals, both of which have been performed. I am also a teaching associate for a songwriting class. I know how to write lyrics, write melodies appropriate for the voice, and use harmonic language to fit the melodic material. I know how to write multiple types of songs: theater, pop, country, jazz, blues, folk, and rock.

Trumpet

I have been teaching trumpet for 15 years to students ranging from 7 to 20 years of age. I have performed professionally since 2005, performing with orchestras, symphonies, and various musical theater productions. I will teach students to develop properly formed embouchure, efficient breathing, breath control, posture and diaphragm support, note fingerings, and develop valve technique, learn and develop proper tonguing, and lip flexibility.

Both classical and jazz lessons available.

Voice (Music)

I am a professional music director for musical theater productions. I have music directed productions of Annie, The Sound of Music, Into the Woods, and various other musical theater shows. I am currently on staff as music director for two companies and a College where I audition, rehearse singers, contracts, and conduct the orchestra in all musical performances for the community.
