I am currently a graduate student in the humanities who is very passionate about learning and passionate about passing that gift of learning to others. I graduated high school in Naperville, IL with a 4.2 GPA, completing various AP courses such as AP European History, American History, Calculus and Psychology. I received all 4s and 5s on those AP tests. Additionally, I received a 31 on the ACT. Because of my experiences in high school I am passionate about tutoring high school students who need a little extra help or need help with ACT or AP testing prep work.
Throughout college I have had childcare positions that have required a tutoring element. Through these positions I have gained knowledge in elementary aged tutoring and homework help. I have high expectations for students and have found tremendous results through communicating these expectations to all students. Having someone who believes they are capable of success is the beginning of academic achievement for all students... especially elementary aged children.
My goal is always to listen to the student and break down where he/she is having trouble. Lack of communication or mis-communication is often the root of academic issues and I strive to mend those breakdowns and restore understanding to each student. I realize every child is unique and take each students' personality into account through the tutoring process.
I currently work as a Teaching Assistant, which means I am in charge of grading all work submitted to the professor I work with. That being said, I am very comfortable with not only assisting students in improving their work, but also in assessing the level of work they are currently producing.
I am available anytime with a very flexible schedule, so contact me and we will get something set up! My son, a junior, has been meeting with Rachel for the past three weeks to prepare for the June ACT after having completed the Kaplan course at his high school. He is so happy to have her as a tutor. She identified what areas he needs to work on and comes prepared for each session. She has instilled a great deal of confidence in him. Would highly recommend her to any parent looking for extra help for their child with the ACT.
Rachel is a great tutor because she teaches me the lesson. When she gives examples she explains the problems to me and all the steps. I like the one on one lessons.
Rachel has made it easy to work around our schedule, always on time an my daughter enjoys learning from her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I trained pre-professionally at the school of DanceWest Ballet through high school under the instruction of renowned faculty and seasoned professionals. I have continued training in college with Ruth Page school of the arts and Lou Conte dance center. I have taught students in various capacities, including private coaching and classes at local dance studios. Additionally I have performed as a guest artist at local venues.
I am currently a student at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. I will graduate in a year with a double major in Bible and Theology/ Women's Ministry. All students take rigorous theology courses and Bible intensive classes. Proper hermeneutics and an understanding of the cultural context are both demanded from each student.
I have taken child development classes focused on learning and am proficient in elementary mathematics.
I received an A in public speaking at DePaul University and also am currently in the pastoral department at Moody. This ensures many preaching classes and several preaching opportunities through various jobs and internships. I have always had a natural ease with speaking in front of people and feel I also have knowledge due to my background in the arts. Ballet itself is a unique form of communication that requires extensive knowledge of body language and "stage presence."
As a student of Moody Bible Institute, I am essentially studying the Christian Religion and Bible. I also have basic knowledge of other world faiths through apologetics and world missions classes.
