For the past 6 years, I have been a teaching assistant for undergraduate statistics courses at UC Irvine while working on my Ph.D. in Statistics. I have also had the opportunity each of the last two summers to be the lecturer/professor for a summer course at UC Irvine. In between teaching and research in statistics education, I have had the pleasure to tutor middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate, and mba students in math and statistics.
In addition to my experience teaching college-level introductory statistics courses ( which have a similar curriculum to AP Statistics), I have two years experience as an AP Reader. During each of the past two summers I have been a grader for the Free Response Section of the AP Statistics Exam. The professional development training received to grade the AP exam is extremely beneficial when helping students prepare for the exam. I know exactly what the graders are looking for and can help your student avoid costly mistakes on the exam. Jason has a very strong understanding of a vast array of statistics concepts. The problem with statistics is that it is very conceptual, so this necessitates a tutor that has a deep understanding of the material to be effective. Jason provides such knowledge, and I would recommend him to any high school or college student who wants to learn statistics.
Jason was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. He taught me some difficult concepts in statistics including critical t, confidence intervals, and anova. He also helped me learn to read spss outputs in order to determine significance. I highly recommend using Jason as a tutor.
I was in desperate need of a tutor for Statistics & Probability (community college level) after realizing I was failing about half way through the semester. This was the only class I needed to successfully transfer from community college to a 4 year university and I was on the fast track to failure. After Jason's services, I improved from getting around 40% on quizzes and tests to A's and B's. Without Jason, I would not have ended up passing this class and would have had to stay in community college for an additional year. Jason taught me the fundamentals that I missed at the beginning of the semester from being ill, mandatory travel for my job, and other things, with ease and patience. When the concepts got harder, Jason met with me up to FOUR DAYS a week to make sure I was understanding the class. Towards the end, I felt he helped me so much that I did not need a final session before my final exam, and I passed the final (comprehensive) with an A! He always texts back, always is willing to fit you in his busy schedule, and makes you feel like you matter as a student. I wouldn't have valued or passed statistics without this tutor.
My daughter learned more from Jason in one afternoon than 4 months from her teacher. He helped her with the concepts of statistics and she could finally complete her assignments with full understanding.
If you need help in statistics Jason should be your first choice. I was doing very poorly in my intermediate college statistics course. After Jason's tutoring I raised my grade by two letters! No joke! He tutors at your pace and really understands the concepts. He made statistics a breeze even when my professor complicated the subject. I think most importantly was that he took the tremendous stress away that all college students feel when taking statistics courses.
Jason was able to help me significantly with my college Intro To Statistics course. While I had done well with Statistics in high school, I had forgotten much of it since I last took it and found it significantly harder in college with a less-than-adequate professor. Jason was able to not only show me the formulas and concepts for the problems I was doing but help me to have a deeper understanding of them in a way that I not only could do the problems but also had a decent understanding what I was actually doing.
Jason's passion for the subject was evident whenever he explained to me concepts I was struggling with, and while I am certainly not a math person, he helped me to enjoy the subject.
Overall, Jason is a very skilled tutor and a very amiable person who is easy to work with. I would definitely recommend his services.
Jason showed up well and on time. He was flexible, and honest about ability to meet where and when. He really helped me with math homework and made a positive impact on the results of my learning and class work. I highly recommend Jason.
Jason has been a godsend for our son who was missing some key instruction in AP Statistics. We have hired college students as tutors in math before, but there has always been either a language barrier, or the tutor just didn't have the experience to get the information across to a high school student for whom math and this sort of thing is not a passion. With Jason, in just two sessions (in the 11th hour no less!), our son went from being lost in statistics to scoring a 93% on his exam. Jason is calm, professional, and has a superior ability to teach. What a relief! Thank you Jason.
Easily identifies the students issues and is able to provide insight into thinking differently to help the student learn the material. Extremely knowledgeable. Relates well to my my son, a HS senior.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
