I have a PhD in epidemiology and a Masters in Public Health from USC. My undergraduate degree is in biology. In college I tutored high school math and science. Before graduate school, I spent 3 years tutoring and teaching at a private home school. In graduate school I tutored graduate students in epidemiology and biostatistics. I currently teach health science subjects to undergraduate college students. My tutoring focus is in statistics, biostatistics, and epidemiology. I work with all levels of students and have successfully worked with many returning adult students who had math anxiety or who need help with GRE test prep. In addition, I am available for help with developing research projects and writing. I am very familiar with the APA format.
In addition to my experiences and education, I have a good personality for tutoring. I am very patient and one of my main strengths is the ability to explain material in different ways so that my students will understand it. If someone is having trouble in a class understanding what the teacher is teaching, the student needs to hear the material explained in a different way. I can also explain complex ideas (such as those in biostatistics) using real life examples that can help in understanding. I have a PhD in epidemiology and a Masters in Public Health from USC. Donna is an excellent tutor! I felt extremely privileged to have such an expert helping me sort my way through this course. Donna has her doctorate in Bio-statistics/Epidemiology, so there wasn't any question or topic that she could not answer. Donna was extremely patient and has a keen ability to explain complex concepts in a clear, understandable manner. Donna was responsive to my emails, extremely professional and always on time to our sessions. Donna was a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend Donna for any of your tutoring needs.
Donna was able to really teach us in a way that we could understand. The content for me is very difficult but she taught us the basics in a way that I could understand and build off them.
Donna was the perfect tutor to assist with AP Stats! She was able to quickly focus my attention on the important concepts, explain them clearly, and help me understand how best to read the questions. Would make a really great teacher! Very grateful for all her help - brought my grade up one full letter.
Donna is so great! She will sit with you until you understand the material! She helped me with my Stata program on the computer and with statistics problems as well!
Donna helped me understand how to read a scientific article and helped me clarify things on my data analysis. She was very clear and helpful. Thank you!
A great help in both biostatistics and epidemiology. Very nice, knowledgeable and patient. Also has been very accommodating in scheduling sessions according to my needs.
Donna was great, explained epidemiology principles and even helped work around a tech issue we had with the online session. Very thankful!
I was desperately looking for an in-person tutor for Biostatistics and SAS program and I am very happy to have found Donna. Not only is she knowledgeable in her field, she helps explain biostatistics and SAS in simple terms. I am very grateful I found her.
Donna made sure I learned understood the material we worked on. On top of working face to face , I was able to send her completed material for corrections before I submitted it.
Thank you, Donna, for giving me the computer skills that I need to complete my BSN. I decided to start an on-line Nursing degree at the age of 62 with very little computer skills. My friends thought I was crazy. I have completed 2 courses with grades of 98%. I couldn't have even thought about doing this without Donna. She helped me with the computer skills that I needed every step of the way. I cannot recommend Donna highly enough. I feel so fortunate that I found Donna. She is highly accomplished, having a PhD from USC but I always felt comfortable with her, no matter how basic my questions were or how many times she showed me the same things over again. Donna is everything that I would look for in a tutor, dependable, flexible, great communicator, very reasonably priced, patient, knowledgeable and also a very nice person.
Donna is a great tutor - very patient and provides clear explanations. She has been very helpful in guiding me through the GRE quantitative section. She always makes a seemingly impossible math problem seem so simple. I leave each session feeling much more confident in my skills. This has been my first experience using this website, which at first I was a bit skeptical since I personally don't know of anyone who has utilized it. However, I've been very satisfied and highly recommend. Thank you, Donna!
Donna has provided great tutoring sessions, and has been available by phone for quick questions. My daughter grasped biology much better as a result of Donna's tutoring, which was reflected in good test scores. More importantly and thanks to Donna, my daughter's confidence in biology became stronger and stronger.
Donna has also tutored my daughter in geometry and chemistry. As a result of Donna's patience and simple way of explaining material, my daughter's grades have been very good. My daughter and I highly recommend Donna as a tutor!
Donna is amazing! I have been working with her for almost a year as I struggle to complete an online statistics course. Donna is always patient, kind, respectful, and has never been late. She's extremely fair and honest, and very friendly. I would particularly recommend her for girls struggling with math, as it was personally a plus for me to not have to feel the pressure of working against the grain of an all-too-common math gender bias. She is very easygoing and calm, which is incredibly reassuring when you're stressed about understanding the material, or preparing for a test. I'd highly recommend Donna to anybody, as she's one of the best tutors I've ever had and I couldn't have survived my statistics course without her!
Donna is very flexible and meets time deadlines. She communicates well which is a great quality. I could always depend on her for help.
If you need help fine tuning your understanding of biostatistics or use of SPSS, Donna is a great tutor!
She is very patient, uses accessible terms and is very knowledgeable. I highly recommend her!
Donna helped me to prepare for the math portion of the GRE. My natural ability for math is nonexistent, and I had not taken a math class in 30 years. Donna was extremely patient and explained math in a manner that I could understand. I always felt confident to ask any question, no matter how simple. Donna was always sure to acknowledge the mathematical concepts and skills I did know, and celebrated the ones I acquired. In short, she made me feel like a math rock star and I was pleased with my GRE math score! I appreciated that Donna was available, and always arrived on time. It was a pleasure to work with her and I give Donna my highest recommendation!
I can't begin to explain how incredibly helpful Donna is. I have always struggled with math, to the point where it caused anxiety. This was my second time taking Statistics, a course necessary for me to transfer to a university and I was struggling again. I found Donna on WyzAnt on Friday night and she was able to meet with me Sunday afternoon. Donna was always very flexible and responsive but what I appreciated the most was her patience. She would repeat the information over and over until I was comfortable. Donna was also able to present the information in a way that was easier to comprehend than the way the book presented it. At the beginning of the semester all I hoped for was a passing grade but with Donna's help I not only passed the class, my final grade was a B.
Donna was my tutor for the math portion of the GRE. As an adult who has not studied math in years I appreciated her patience and her ability to really go backwards and look at things in a different way. She was able to realize there were areas I solidly grasped while there were areas we needed to truly begin from the beginning. She had great ideas on what I could to in our time apart in order to make more out of or time together and get me further along in a short time period. I strongly recommend Donna, she understands how to play to a student's strengths in order to build confidence and help them grow.
What can I say about Donna? She SAVED me from math! I can't recommend this woman enough. Totally punctual, professional, nice, concise, patient, clear, funny, and most of all extremely helpful! "Math people" can become easily frustrated, but Donna was always cool even when she had to explain a single concept to me multiple times.
I had to take Intro Stats at UCLA to get into my bachelor program. It wasn't looking too good for me--I've always had a hard time with math. Donna and I crammed for a week before my final. I passed with a B! Had I worked with her the entire semester I may have gotten an A... That is saying a lot! I will definitely call on her for future math classes AND you should too! Thank you Donna!!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Masters in Public Health with a focus in biostatistics and epidemiology. I have a PhD in epidemiology and my coursework included several biostatistics courses. I used biostatistical methods regularly in my doctoral research work. I have tutored many undergraduate and graduate students in biostatistics courses. I also have experience teaching biostatistics as the college level.
As a Master of Public Health student in epidemiology/biostatistics I studied SAS. I continued to study and use SAS as a doctoral student. I use SAS now regularly for the statistical analysis of my research projects. I have provided guidance to classmates on the use of SAS.
