About Michael

In 2007, I graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in material science engineering. I am currently a doctoral student at Caltech, and am getting my PhD in materials science with an emphasis in metallurgy. Before that, I worked for two years in a research lab in the Los Angeles area. I have an in-depth knowledge of the material I am qualified to teach and am eager to share it with inquisitive minds. I have tutored my peers in college which allows me to provide new perspectives of thinking and help develop study skills. I also have been a teacher's assistant at Caltech and have mentored many high school and college kids as well. My knowledge of physics, math, chemistry and engineering is quite profound, and I can also provide assistance in other technical areas. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I am a PhD student in the physical sciences at Caltech and have an in-depth understanding of algebra. This not only includes expertise in algebra 1 but more advanced algebra as well. I have experience tutoring at the high school level and enjoy tutoring kids at this level.

Algebra 2

I am a PhD student in the physical sciences at Caltech and have an in depth understanding of algebra. This not only includes expertise in Algebra 2 but more advanced Algebra as well. I have experience tutoring at the high school level and enjoy tutoring kids at this level.

Baseball

I grew up both playing and watching baseball. I played baseball through grade school and middle school, until high school when I stopped to focus on my studies. In college I played four years of intramural softball as well which has allowed me to freshen up my skills.

Calculus

I am a PhD student in the physical sciences at Caltech and have an in depth understanding of Calculus. This not only includes expertise in Calculus but more advanced forms of math that use different ideas from calculus as well. I have experience tutoring at the high school and college level and enjoy tutoring calculus a lot.

Chemical Engineering

I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Material Science Engineering. This focused on metallurgy, polymers, and the synthesis of other materials used in day to day life.

Linear Algebra

I took a Linear Algebra class at UC Berkeley which focused on vectors, matrix manipulation, REF, RREF, and differential equations. I also have had extensive experience with MATLAB which forces me to use Linear algebra extensively. Subsequent classes at Berkeley also required me to apply my skills in linear algebra and extend my knowledge of it.

MATLAB

At UC Berkeley every incoming engineer is required to take a class in MATLAB. This class not only goes through the basics of MATLAB but also teaches you to create your own functions and apply them to create larger programs. Since then I have used MATLAB for a variety of uses including using it to solve infinite series, designing orthopedics and testing stresses in them and the bones they are attached to. I also have used it extensively to solve matrices for linear algebra.

Physics

I am a PhD student in the material science at Caltech and have an in depth understanding of physics. This not only includes expertise in Newtonian physics (or the physics of motion) but also in electricity & magnetism and quantum mechanics.

Prealgebra

I have an in depth understanding of prealgebra and how to build up the fundamentals that lead to a solid understanding of algebra. I have experience tutoring at the grade school level and enjoy giving people a new understanding and appreciation of math.
