Language learning is my No. 1 hobby so I understand how much effort it takes to pick up one and how it can be so much fun too! My tutoring style is detail-oriented, finely-tailored to students' personal need, and most importantly, with passion! I love getting to know about my students not only as a teacher but also as a friend - language uncovers so many diverse life experiences that are otherwise inaccessible.
I studied English for 15+ years in China and became as fluent as a native speaker 2 years after I come to America. 3-year study of Japanese in American and Japanese universities already made me sound like a true Japanese - and I am a native speaker of Chinese too!
I have been an English tutor for 5+ years. My students range from elementary school kids to college students, mainly Chinese. I also worked for university in Japan to tutor college students advanced English. My accent is close to Midwest American English.
I specialize in English test preparation too. I got high scores on TOEFL with one-month preparation and can give crucial advice beyond tests (college selection, life suggestions, etc).
I learned Japanese in classroom and real-world settings (Tokyo, Japan) and I passed JLPT N1 at almost full score with less-than-one-week test preparation. I have worked in Japan and took business Japanese so polite form is my strength, and Kanji too (I am a Chinese!) I have tutored beginners in Japanese using English and received absolutely positive feedback.
I speak standard mandarin, love reading classical Chinese literature and can help with business-oriented situations too.
Patience, accuracy and warmth define me as a person overall. I work with flexible schedules and instant responsiveness. Shoot me a message and we can begin! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
