University of Wisconsin-Madison (Mathematics--Honors)
I have successfully tutored mathematics at many levels. During my senior year of high school I tutored calculus weekly. As an undergraduate math major, I spent one year tutoring a 6th grader (mostly in math) and another year tutoring math in the university cafeterias for students studying any subjects from Multivariate Calculus and on down. I received excellent reviews as a college math tutor. Students noted how I gave comprehensive explanations and was good at sensing what exactly they did not understand. While I was in college I also tutored my friend's younger brother in high school physics. I started tutoring him mid-semester when he was getting a B, and he finished the semester with an A.
I know how frustrated some students get with math (and physics), and I find tutoring very rewarding because I can help students build confidence. I noticed that individual students' learning styles sometimes do not match well with their teacher or professor's teaching styles. My tutoring sessions are worthwhile because I am skilled at figuring out how individual students learn and carefully adapting my teaching style to them. I also simply enjoy mathematics and am very enthusiastic about explaining mathematical concepts to others.
I have a strong knowledge of high school mathematics and calculus. I am able to give comprehensive answers because of my deep understanding. I get students to see connections between different concepts so that they really understand.
If I sound like a good tutor to you, contact me through WyzAnt and I'll be happy to schedule a tutoring session. I am available on weekends and on all school nights. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
