About John

I started tutoring Math & Physics when I was 17 and my first (free) students were my classmates. I have continued tutoring ever since because I kept getting students referring me and because I truly enjoy teaching. My work experience includes:

Over 10 years of experience in private high-end tutoring, working with gifted children (but not exclusively).

Teaching Assistant for Physics 8A/8B at UC Berkeley (2006-2008)

Instructor for Introductory Physics at UC Berkeley Extension (2009 & currently)

Dean & Professor of Mathematics at Intégrale, one of France’s top 3 Classes Préparatoires, in Paris (2010 - 2013)

Private Tutor in Math and Physics for Carfax Monaco Education Group (2014 - 2015).

I tutor for the satisfaction helping students reach their highest potential provides me. I am an extremely competitive tutor and am completely dedicated to supporting students with the necessary help in order for them to reach their academic goals and strive.

If you are willing to learn and work hard at math or physics but need some extra help (even a lot) to ace your class, we should talk. I devote a lot of time to my students provided they meet this pre-requisite of caring about their studies and wanting to succeed. I am very patient and I guarantee I will find a way for you to understand the material.

However, I realize that such a level of commitment is not for everyone. If this does not sound like what you are looking for, I would recommend finding another tutor.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra is central to any math education and it is important to have a good understanding of it. I have tutored algebra A LOT therefore and enjoy helping students understand it and get ahead.

Algebra 2

A strong foundation in Algebra 2 is the key to doing well in math in general. I always make sure that students, whatever grade they are in, have a very good working knowledge of Algebra.

Calculus

Former Math Professor in Paris, France (5 years, college level).
Over 10 years of tutoring experience.

Differential Equations

I have a M.S. from UC Berkeley in Fluid Mechanics and Applied Math.

I have written courses, taught, and tutored Differential Equations in the past and am comfortable with the material.

Physics

Teaching Assistant at UC Berkeley in Physics 8A/8B (Pre-Med) for 3 years.
Instructor at UC Berkeley Extension in Physics X3A (Pre-Med) for a semester.
Over 10 years of tutoring experience in Physics.

Probability

Probability is the most important and applied part of mathematics but unfortunately the most underrated and poorly taught. Probability is at best counter-intuitive and it is important to be rigorously introduced to it in order to know how to apply it to real-life situation and different exam problems.

Very prepared!

I only worked on physics with John, so I do not know what differences, if any, there are in teaching style when John teaches math. However, at least when it comes to physics, John is an excellent tutor who truly understands the material, knows how to convey the information, and has all the resources to help you attain mastery of the subject. All I had to do was tell him the topics I wanted to work
