I started doing Karate in 1982 and trained in almost every class offered (about 10 hours/week), until assigned assistant instructor duties in 1984. I found my dual-calling in Karate training and teaching over 30 years ago and have been passionately doing both since then. I started teaching self-defense-specific classes in 1989 and have done various martial arts over the years. I have been leading elite Instructors' Classes and organizing top-level camps and seminars for many years and presently teach group lessons at up to 10 locations in a given week. In addition, I teach private lessons in Karate and self-defense and am not apologetic about charging more than others; many will tell you that I am a bargain at any rate and I guarantee that you will find no better teacher of martial arts within at least 200 miles.
Want to become a tournament champion? learn self-defense skills? get in the best shape of your life? feel happy about yourself? gain confidence? I can help you with any/all of that.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
There are very few people with anywhere near my qualifications for teaching Karate. We can start off with that I taught at the personal dojo (training hall) of the late Chief Instructor of the Japan Karate Association in Tokyo, where I trained for a total of eight years starting in 1985. From what I can tell, I currently charge the highest rate of any Karate instructor on the west coast and am getting ready to raise my rates because I am getting very busy. My list of clients includes some very big names.
