Stanford University (Mechanical Engineeri)
M.Sc. from Stanford University (Master's)
I recently graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus on Sustainable Design and Construction. I was a member of the Stanford Track and Field team 2006-2010 and am a two-time Academic All-American.
My tutoring areas of expertise include most Math and Science subjects including Calculus and Physics. I'm fluent in Spanish and have tutored extensively in the subject. In high school I graduated at the top of my class and have experience on a variety of AP tests including physics, calculus, world history, and Spanish.
As Captain of the Stanford Track and Field team I gained valuable experience in the world of personal fitness and am also willing to train individuals in strength, speed, and agility.
I have flexible tutoring hours and will provide personal contact information so that I may be reached easily. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
At Stanford I studied mechanical and civil engineering, using physics in almost every class. I currently use physics concepts on a daily basis in my job as an engineer and product designer. I'm a patient tutor, as I understand that all students learn differently and at different rates. I'm willing to work with students to meet their needs in whatever way they are most comfortable.
At Stanford, I studied both Mechanical and Civil Engineering and used concepts from Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus on a regular basis. In my current line of work as an engineer and product designer, I still employ my learnings from these subjects to solve real world problems.
I have 8 years of experience tutoring in Pre-Calculus and am very comfortable with the subject matter.
I'm a fluent Spanish speaker with over 10 years of experience tutoring in the language. I've studied Spanish at both the high school and college level, taking intensive international relations classes in the subject. In high school, I received a 4 on the Spanish AP exam.
With my fluency comes an understanding of the rules that govern the language. Though I'm always thought to be a native speaker by those that learned the language in childhood, I actually learned Spanish the same way so many others are trying to learn it: in school. Because of this, I'm able to tutor both native and non-native speakers. I understand the way Spanish classes are taught, the structure of the language, and can clearly explain this to either type of learner.
I've also created a comprehensive plan for attaining fluency in a language for anyone that has this as their goal. This follows the same method I used to reach fluency in Spanish, and I'd be more than happy to share it with future students!
I recently graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Sustainable Design and Construction. Throughout my time at Stanford I was a member of its nationally ranked track and field team and served as its team captain during the 2009-2010 season. I ran the 400 meter hurdles, the 400 meter dash, the 4x400 relay, and competed in high jump.
I am a two-time Academic All-American, two-time regional qualifier, and NCAA qualifier. During the 2009-2010 track and field season I ran the second fastest 400 meter hurdle time in Stanford history. With a time of 50.24 I ranked number 4 in the pac-ten, number 10 in the NCAA, number 21 in the United States and number 66 in the world.
I was a member of the 5th and 9th fastest run 4x400 meter relays in Stanford history. In addition to the running events I have high jumped for 10 years and hold the record for the 8th highest indoor high jump in Stanford history.
I believe in explaining to athletes the keys to successfully competing at a higher level and helping them understand what it will take for them to achieve their goals.
I am available to coach both individual events and general strength, fitness, and agility.
