UC Berkeley (Cognitive Science)
I have been tutoring foster youths working with the LA Country Foster Youth Services as well as teaching privately at the same time. I have more than 400 hours of tutoring in all subjects from K-12th. Some of my students struggled with ADHD, Alcohol Syndrome, and Autism and they improved enormously.
For K-6th, I have been teaching all subjects including Elementary Math, English Language Arts, Spelling, Vocabulary, Phonics, Reading Comprehension, Writing, Social Studies, and Science. I accentuate the importance of reading and writing because it is the core skills that are required for all subjects. If you cannot understand word problems in Math, or any type of academic texts, you cannot learn and move forward.
I have taught a high school student on SAT writing section and he improved 180 (solely on writing section) in three months of tutoring.
My students' parents have always been very happy with me. One of my current students are getting a B in Math from getting an F previous semester before he met me.
Here's my philosophy on teaching...
I help students not only with homework completion, but also study strategies based on each student's needs. You can't always have a tutor next to you to motivate and help you learn especially at college.
My goal is to teach my students how to study on their own, find motivation, and discover and practice the most effective study method for each individual. I respect and care for my students and I take my time to prepare the best materials to help them.
I went straight to UC Berkeley from High School but I still have 3 semesters to finish since I couldn't go back for a financial issue. My plan is to transfer to UCLA from Berkeley because of personal matter.
Received All A's in all of my math classes (All honors or AP) in high school including Geometry, Algebra 2 and Trig, PreCalc, and Calculus.

Geometry. Was very helpful and organized. Related well with my daughter. Knew the subject matter. Flexible hours and very accommodating. We will be using her services in the near future.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
