About Monica

I am very good student, who recently graduated from college with a GPA of 3.7. There isn't a subject that doesn't capture my attention. I love U.S History, English, Art, Geography, Earth Science, and Statistics. Whenever I get the chance, I'll read articles about politics and science and discuss them with my family or friends. I enjoy learning and I believe everyone should also take pride in everything they know. I learned from my theories of personality class that the need to know is stronger than the need for safety as illustrated by Abraham Maslow's theory. I would love nothing more than to help people better themselves and gain self-confidence in their knowledge on a variety of subjects.

I also know what it is like to struggle in a class, and how frustrating it is, since in high school I too struggled in a subject, that being Calculus. It was then that I wished I had a tutor who could have helped me pass the class and made it easier for me to grasp the subject. Ever since then, I've felt the need to help those who don't understand a certain subject. If you choose me, I promise to work my hardest to help you get it.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I love U.S. History, so much so that in High School, I took and AP course on it. I passed the AP test with a 4, which is the highest grade I've ever received in any of my AP tests. I am strong believer that we must learn history in order to be able to improve our future. History shall not be repeated.

English is one of my favorite subjects because it is not black and white and everything is open for interpretation. The English language is a mixture of many foreign tongues, which is why it is so complex.

I hate to say this, but Americans are not the most well-versed when it comes to geography. I've always felt that geography should be a subject more prevalent in school since I find it fascinating. I love both cultural and physical geography and have often done well in courses that involve both of those subject areas. I love learning about different cultures as well, because I feel that the more we know about other societies and their way of my life, the less prejudice we become of them.

I love literature and when I took the AP test for the course, I passed it with a 3. I love reading novels that have strong vocabulary, as well as intricate, fanciful stories. Some of my favorite novels are Little Women, Pride and Prejudice, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Road, Slaughterhouse-Five,The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle and the Harry Potter series. I believe that reading and writing about it opens up the mind more than any other thing in the world. I have often received high sores in my literary-based essays and one reason for that is because I love writing about nearly everything.

I have been sewing for six years already and in those six years I have learned how to construct gowns, jackets, pants, and skirts. My strong points are pockets and fly zippers. I am also really good with pants and the hems. I can teach different types of hand-stitching like the blind stitch, the whip stitch and chevron for padding in the jackets. When it comes to garments, I can sew a baby hem, and the hong kong seam binding, as well as do a roll hem on the serger machine. Sewing is fun and easy; it just takes lots of trial and error, and I would love to help someone learn just as much as I did.

I've been speaking Spanish since I was a baby, and it was my first language. I love the language because it is romantic and simple. There are certain words that just sound better in Spanish. I am very proud of my Mexican heritage and speaking Spanish is a very important part of that.
