In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As a multiple subject teacher, I had to pass numerous tests for the State of California measuring my knowledge for all subjects of study from kindergarten through 8th grade. I have received many different types of Study Skills coursework throughout my teacher credentialing. From providing organization skills to homework help techniques, I have the ability to show students how to best get themselves set to learn and how to be more prepared for classes.
I have received AVID training, which preached organization and study skills up and down and I am set to attend another week's worth of AVID training this summer. These classes will provide me with more tools to teach Study Skills.
