I am a life-long learner. Before moving to the Valley, I was a successful elementary school teacher for 19 years. While working in the public schools I taught children from all over the world. I thrive on establishing a positive relationship with my students and encouraging them to grow academically and to develop a growth mindset. I believe learning should be fun. I'll listen to your interests, and we'll strive to make your learning experience interesting and challenging.
I struggled with math in school. I know what it's like to only see part of the picture. I had to work harder than my peers to be successful. I've since learned to love math! Math can make sense. It can be fun. Students will learn multiple ways to solve problems.
Speaking and writing well is important. When I'm not sure of something, I find the answer.
I am a certified grades 1-6 teacher and I teach all subjects related to the Common Core; math, language arts, science, and social studies.
I can teach both printing and cursive in both Zaner-Bloser and D'Nealian. My students have beautiful penmanship.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught in the public school system for 19 years, both in Minnesota and in Arizona. I taught both before and after No Child Left Behind was instituted. I have a Masters Degree in Education, plus approximately 30 credits. I have Highly Qualified status.
I taught first through fourth grades in Minnesota and in Arizona. I have a current Grades 1-6 license. I have taught both individual grade levels and multi-grade classrooms, as well as looping.
I have taught both printing and cursive in the Zaner-Bloser and D'nealian styles. My students have good to excellent penmanship. I believe teaching handwriting offers the opportunity to teach quality control and pride in one's work. I have 19 years of experience teaching in the public schools, grades one through four.
I undergraduate degree is in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota. I completed advanced studies at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Banff, Alberta; Canada. I have sung professionally on a part-time basis for the past 25 years in churches, concerts, oratorios, and opera. I made my Italian operatic debut in Lucca, Italy in Prokofiev's 'The Love for Three Oranges. I continue to study voice and sing whenever possible.
