Carson-Newman (French and English)
Winthrop University (Master's)
My entire career was devoted to education. I have 20+ years experience as an instructor of English, French and English as a Second Language. I have both B.A. and M.A. degrees, with French as a major and English as a minor. My teaching experience includes grades 9-12, junior college and undergraduate courses. Additionally, I have taught ESL to adults, primarily of Asian and South American origins. I was an elementary school administrator for grades K-5 and ended my career recruiting and hiring teachers. Although I am happily retired, I would welcome opportunities to share my passion for educating those who could benefit from my experience and expertise.
I believe my preparation to teach and my experience speak for themselves. What I enjoy most about teaching is seeing the "Aha" moment when a student realizes (s)he has grasped a particular concept. That moment of lucidity and excitement is my motivation to continue my role as educator. I believe every student can learn, given the proper tools, methodology and motivation. I adapt my teaching style to meet the individual student's needs, goals and learning style.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
