I am a retired business executive living in Alpine, Ca. I have tutored two of my grandchildren in Algebra, Algebra II, Geometry and Physics. My wife died two years ago and I have actively reached out within the community to give back and to fill up my days. Last school year, I was a volunteer teacher's assistant at a local Middle School and found that working with students was rewarding. The principal and teaching staff have asked me to return in the fall.
If you need help in math or science, I can help! I am patient and methodical. Doing work in a well thought out and organized way is the best way to teach and the best way to learn. It has worked with my grandchildren as juniors and seniors in high school and it has worked with the students I assisted at the Middle School.
I know the material well and I am able to explain approaches to problem solving in different ways. If one explanation is not enough for the student, then I will try a different one until the material is understood.
Chemistry, like other sciences or math is logical and straight forward. I take the time to explain, offer examples to make the point and encourage the student until the material is well understood.

Joe is currently helping a 10th grade boy with geometry. The student is very behind in the material, but with Joe's help the student is really coming along nicely and learning the concepts he never learned before. We appreciate all Joe's work!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
