I am a retired teacher and professor. My reviews at WyzAnt are very strong, please review. I tutor physics and test preparation for standardized tests for physics and math. This includes the ACT SAT and MCAT, as well as electrical, plumbing, and water treatment. I happen to be very excited about the new AP Physics Exam 1 since I did some of the educational research being used in the Exam. It is a much improved Exam. I have not tutored (and prepared a lot of support material) for the first two offerings of this test (May 2016 and May 2015) I was always considered an excellent and patient teacher, receiving an award for Excellence. I taught Physics and Math. I start with a review of your interests (to relate physics and math to what you already know and like) and math skills. I advise students that they already know a lot of physics and math, or they could not function day to day. I try to build on that knowledge. I provide worksheets and bring a physics demonstration/experiment kit to show concepts in action. Most students do not learn physics or math (and most things) well by just being told, some learn by seeing and some learn by doing. I try to learn what works for you. I have tutored hundreds of students, over 400 hours of tutoring at Wyzant. I want to understand your class, teacher, and want to see your text, any workbooks, outlines and assignments. For each session it is important that you select 2 to 4 items where you need help. I try to end each session with a short discussion of what will be covered next in your class. I usually work with Alg I courses and intro algebra based physics courses and AP Physics 1, Algebra based. I am a retired teacher and professor. My reviews at WyzAnt are very strong, please review. Dr. Jack has been working with my daughter on Physics. He is punctual, reliable and comes fully prepared for the lesson. He provides practical examples to explain the concepts in a manner that is easy to understand. He is patient and really takes the time to go over the material. He also provides a thorough summary of the lesson as well as objectives for the next session. Would highly recommend Dr. Jack!
Dr. Jack helped me refresh my math skills and to pass a placement test for college level statistics within only a few visits.
He is very methodical, knowledgeable and he knows how to explain concepts in a simple and straightforward way. What I appreciated the most is his approach in dealing with such an exam.
It has been more than 15 years since I received formal math instruction and needless to say that I didn't know from where to start! Also the fact that I grew up abroad made things harder since I wasn't aware of the high school curriculum in the US. Dr Jack knew exactly how to navigate me in this process. My goal was mainly to pass the exam but I also wanted to re-gain basic math skills that will help me in my new career. From the very beginning he could give me a good estimation of how long it will take. He had a plan. Instead of teaching me everything from alpha to omega, he grouped the sample questions in broader categories, he prioritized the material and he focused on these concepts that would be easier to approach and understand within the limited available time frame. He also taught me strategies to deal with questions without wasting time doing calculations and avoiding potential mistakes.
Overall I had a very positive experience with Dr Jack! I was never a math oriented person and after our meetings I started feeling more confident with my math skills. He honestly deserves the title of the best math teacher I ever had!
Dr. Jack T has tutored my daughter for a few months. He was patient and cared very much how to prepare my daughter for her AP exam in Physics.
He was organized at every session and made sure my daughter was comfortable with the subject and assignments assigned by him. Her AP exam was this week and he supported her all the way. He not only tutored her but he mentored her also. He also contacted her after the exam to discuss how it went and how she felt she did. He is a wonderful caring tutor and if you use his knowledge and expertise you are one lucky student and parent. My daughter said she will miss him and hopes she can see him again next semester. Thank you Dr. Jack and have a wonderful summer we will miss you..
Dr. Jack T. is a very dedicated, smart and hardworking teacher and he wants the best results for the students. We had a very good experience with him tutoring my twin sons for Algebra 2. he is on time, prepared and the best tutor I have ever seen in many many years. He is also an expert in college level and high school level for Physics. I highly recommend to get his help when you need to help your children in maths and science.
Dr. Jack has been tutoring my daughter in high school physics for 3-4 months. He is a very helpful tutor and has helped her maintain a good understanding of current and future material.
This was my first time taking a class in Physics. It was also college level Physics. Dr. Jack was very patient with me and always made sure that I felt confident about the material. He explained complicated concepts in a simple way that helped me understand it better! Because of him I received an A in the class! He is very flexible on times to have tutoring and it was really great that he came to tutor me at my school library.
Dr. Jack is an excellent tutor. He has been very patient with my daughter who has some issues with confidence and motivation. Dr. Jack not only tutored her Physics but also helped her prepare for ACT. It is apparent that he did a lot of preparation prior to the lesson. He provides additional suggestions and strategies for her to practice at home.
Dr Jack has been really awesome, he helped me learn basic math to algebra to trigonometry. I called on him with twenty days until my master plumber exam. Now I'm confident I can pass any test they give me. I have learned formulas equations which I can use not just to pass the exam but to use through out my life and especially in the work force.
Dr. Jack is patient, organized and punctual. He takes the time to understand the book and teacher's approach to the material. I real master at math and teaching. He became injured during our sessions. I hope he recovers well. We will miss the Dr.
My introductory math and algebra tutor session's with Dr. Jack T., were exactly what I was requiring. Thank you very much!
It was amazing to see a teacher with so much PATIENT. I would recommended "Dr Jack" to anyone who needs a tutor in math and science. My grandson was very apprehensive about getting a tutor just like many freshman High School student are. Dr Jack made him feel at ease and definitely was very engaging with him. We will continue with him, as i know my grandson needs foundation to continue his future in math and science. Dr Jack is non-judgmental about where his knowledge was in math and that made him feel so much more comfortable that now learning was able to happen. Great experience for my Grandson to learn from an educator who has so much passion to teach...it was incredible to witness.
Jack worked with my son two times a week for a two month period with the goal of passing the class (Algrbra 2) with a C grade (his grade was a D- at the start of sessions with Jack). The 1 to 1.5hr sessions were well organized, focused on finding my son's weak areas in understanding Algrbra and working to improve them. Jack was patient with him, had a postivie attitude making Nick comfortble and giving him the confidence needed to "catch up" in the areas needed and to take on the new material. After each session Jack gave a through review and gave plans/goals for him to accomplish prior to the next session. My son responded to Jack's approach and showed improvement in his quizes and tests, his algebra teacher noted his improvement and relayed it to my son. His last test prior to the final was a strong A!. He took his final this last Thursday and felt good about it. We are confident he will pass the class and best of all Nick has gained an understanding of Algebra 2 thanks to Jack's efforts.
Dr. Jack was extremely helpful in preparing my daughter for her final. I believe she has learned more from him in the hours they spent together, than she has learned in class all semester. Dr.Jack is patient and his teaching skills make him a very efficient and valuable tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching or tutoring physics and math since about 1965. I have specifically tutored students in the math parts of the ACT and SAT. I have four college degrees, three advanced degrees (PhD, MBA and MS) so am a very good test taker. I have also tutored in professional test preparation such as plumbing, water management, nursing prep, and teaching.
Tutor Physics that is Algebra based. Also tutor the new AP Physics Exam 1! I did some of the educational research that the new test is based on and am very interested in tutoring for the new Exam 1. First Exam is soon (May 6th) but good time to start to prepare for the next exam. I have a BS, MS, and PhD in Physics and have taught physics for many years.
