Hello! My name is Alexa Mae A. and I'm a multimedia journalist. I like to tell stories through the use of words, video and photography, and I'm also an expert at social media marketing. As a journalist, I have a specific set of skills that I'd like to use to also help others. Those skills include impeccable writing, grammar, editing and public speaking.
I attended St. John's University for my undergraduate degree in journalism and criminal justice, and I went on to get my Master of Arts degree from New York University. I've worked for ABC News, CBS News, The New York Times' Local East Village, and a slew of other other media companies and publications.
I've always loved interacting with others and helping my local community. Now that I'm back in the Ventura County area, I'd love to help those around me who need assistance in English, grammar, writing, etc. I care about my craft and making sure the younger generation practices those skills early, so I'd love to help you in that process.
Both of my degrees are in journalism, which has helped me hone and perfect a certain skills set that makes me a great English tutor. Whether it be help in grammar, proofreading, writing or English, I am experienced in those areas considering my college and graduate school studies and my work and internship experience in New York.
I'd love to help you grow and succeed in the areas mentioned previously. As a young child, I developed a love for reading and writing and value the teachers and tutors I had growing up. They helped me get on the right track to find areas I was passionate about and to explore the different facets that came with it - and that's my goal with you! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a journalist, it's always important to produce and tell stories in the best way possible. Through the use of proper vocabulary, one can add color and life to a story. Vocabulary can add emphasis to a character or idea, it can paint a scene or bring power to a sequence. I've learned what I know now through English and vocabulary classes through my undergraduate college and was able to apply what I learned during my work and internship experiences at local publications in New York City.
