I have 40 plus years of performing in Southern California areas. Graduate of Ventura college. Attended Northridge University 1 year for classical guitar performance. Have performed with local groups, most recently with Ventura County Jazz Orchestra 2014,2016. Played 1st. Oxnard blues/jazz festival at Community center. Have showed people in the past how to do it.
Knowledge of both Electric and acoustic styles of guitar, B.B. King, J.Hendrix,E.Clapton styles, can teach Segeras Method and Segovia/Parkening methods. Knowledge of McLaughlin and J. Pass styles, have library of method books of all these subjects. Can teach basic and advanced note reading and writing methods with Schonberg and Pisten harmony methods. Can show and demonstrate proper technique for positioning, posture, sound production, timing/rhythm, self teaching methods to learn technique and songs or pieces of music they want to learn.
I have participated in classes with Segovia(Northridge University 1979) and audited master classes with Parking(Pepperdine University) Have met and heard live performances of most major guitar players, J. Pass, J. McLaughlin, B. King, E.Clapton, A. Segovia, C. Parkening, P. Ramero, C. Gonzales(Ventura College), A. Holdsworth, Sabicas, Paco deLucia, H. Roberts, T. Tedesco, P. Medlem(Santa Barbara) Took theory and composition at Ventura College with Burns Taft and Frank Salazar. At Northridge University, took performance classes with Ron Purcell, George Vick, and Ron Jones(classical).
I have a wide range of influences and subjects I enjoy learning new ideas all the time and also I enjoy meeting new people everyday of my life. I always give teaching advice about any type of playing to anybody who asks for it. I can travel to any body's home or practice place. I would like to find out what the student really wants to know and see about getting that information to them. I can get a complete beginner to play comfortably and adequately in a short amount of time if they practice well. Basically, I teach the five basic positions that apply to the guitar neck. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I studied music with Ivan Schobe at Rio Mesa High School in 1971-1974. I studied composition, counterpoint, harmony of common practice period with Burns Taft and Frank Salazar at Ventura College from 1975-1977.
I have been an active performer in music since 1971 mainly playing rock and roll music of the 1970's through 2016. I am presently a guitarist for Ventura County Jazz Orchestra, playing swing and jazz/pop and standards.
I studied classical guitar with Peter Medlem at Ventura College in 1975-6, George Vick at Moorpark College in 1979 and Ron Jones at Northridge University in 1980. I took a master class with Vince Lauria, Mel Bay author, in 1988.
