About Angelica

I currently tutor kids K-5 in reading and math. I really like to tutor kids and the success that is made after the tutoring in the subject targeted. I like to encourage kids that they can do anything no matter how hard it may seem. I am a very enthusiastic person, love teaching and have a great personality.

I use manipulatives depending on the age and use different math ways to solve a problem. I try new strategies until i find the perfect one that works.

I am very fluent in Spanish, both in reading and writing. I use the language every day.

I am very good at tutoring vocabulary words. I use them in sentences and explain the definition in order for the child to understand them.

My lessons are really fun and you will learn in a very fun and fast way. You will feel proud of your work and will feel confident about every subject.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I like to tutor math, I have helped students that are being introduced to this subject. I use the step by step method, it helps them understand how to solve a problem easier. It makes them know what comes first in solving a problem and what comes last. If a child is having a hard time with one of the steps I explain it in different ways until the student is no longer confused.

Autism

I'm currently working as an instructional aide at an elementary school in a special education classroom with k-4 autistic kids. I help them in reading, writing and math. I also help them with fine motor so they learn how to cut, glue and paste.

Elementary (K-6th)

I tutor kids k-6 for a professional tutoring program. Currently I'm working with a 5th grader, tutoring him with math, and a 1st grader in reading. I also work in a Special Ed. class as a teachers assistant. A year ago I worked at an elementary school as a noon duty supervisor with k-5 students, I also volunteered in a 2nd and 3rd grade classroom as a teachers aide. I took the no child left behind test in reading and math and passed them both.

Elementary Math

I currently work in an elementary school with autistic kids grades k-4. I do math worksheets, and teach a math lesson to them. I use many different examples and strategies. Depending on the age of the student, I will use blocks, flash cards or a white board. I tutor a 5th grader in math and I use a dry erase board and flash cards; it has helped him improve. I work with kindergartners in math as well. I help them do their worksheets consisting of addition and subtraction problems. I use manipulatives such as counting blocks with k-3.

GMAT

I learned how to give the student a GMAT test when I started tutoring for a local program. I motivate students to try their best before beginning to take the test. I think encouragement is very important when it comes to a test no matter how old the child is.

Grammar

I help students when they are having a hard time figuring out the correct grammar. I work in a K-4 class where I help students with their grammar while writing sentences. I tutor a first grader in language arts.

Prealgebra

It is very important for the student to understand how a math problem is being solved step by step. I like my students to completely understand the steps of each problem solved. If a student can't quite get it, then I use a different strategy until the student can solve the problem on his own. I'm currently tutoring a student with math where he is learning Prealgebra. I help him solve problems step by step until he understands it.

Reading

I have been tutoring a 1st grader in reading for two months. I help him pronounce words he doesn't know, my goal is for him to be able to read fluently and correctly. I took the no child left behind test in reading and passed it.

Spanish

Spanish is my first language; I speak, read and write it very well. I have helped some people i know learn the language. When I was in high school I helped in a Spanish class with students that were having difficulty learning this language. I'm great at teaching it and I love doing it.

Special Needs

I work in a special education classroom as an instruction aide. I work with autistic kids and children who have a hard time learning. I help them with math and English, I help them with homework and worksheets.

Spelling

I tutor a first grader and i help him learn how to spell words out. We read a sentence and then write it down and check our spelling. I work with children k-4 in a classroom where i also teach them spelling.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is fun to learn because there are different methods of learning vocabulary. I personally use flash cards dry erase boards and other fun methods to make learning fun and enjoyable. I currently am using these methods and it's working great for the student.

Writing

Currently I am tutoring a first grader in reading and writing for the Sylvan "Ace It" program. I have been tutoring for a month now. I help the student write about what he read and write sentences using his vocabulary words. I teach him how to write a sentence correctly with the correct punctuation.
