I have been teaching and tutoring in Orange County for 15 years. I relate very well to people and can see things from their point of view. This comes in very handy when I'm tutoring someone who "just doesn't get" the subject we're working on. I try to make learning fun, and the time goes quickly during a tutoring session. My subjects include French, which I speak fluently and hold a Master's degree in; music (flute and voice instruction for ten years with a successful student following); English, reading, elementary education (K-6), writing (I was a copyeditor for 17 years before I became a teacher) and English as a second language, which I taught for 6 years in the Adult School. My students have a track record of success that I'm proud of. If you're looking for a tutor with experience, patience, and enthusiasm for learning, who can teach you what you need to know, you'll want to work with me.

Brooke was the perfect tutor for me. We worked together for approximately 9 months on my dubious French skills. (I leave for Paris next week). She was knowledgeable about her subject, always on time, always very professional. But her best characteristic is her patience. My French oral skills are not good and yet she listened to me time after time without showing a hint of frustration. Having a tutor while learning a foreign language is very helpful. I felt I could ask Brooke any question. Even though I was also taking classes within a small group, I felt I was taking up time by asking so many questions. I highly recommend Brooke for French tutoring.
We talk a lot ! Interesting ! I need a ESL tutor to teach me more about language , I need a good friend to share more stories , I need a mentor to discuss and solve problems ... Yes, I found her ! Brooke is wonderful ! Very professional , knowledgeable , patient and thoughtful ... !
Brooke is great teacher. She is teaching my girls English, Grammar, and writing. the girls love working with her and are looking forward to the next lesson. Thank you!
She was easy to speak with and explained things thoroughly. Her patience with me was outstanding and she made sure that I understood the passages and phrases before moving on to the next. So glad that I signed up and contacted her and will continue to have weekly lessons with her! So excited about learning a new language!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I currently hold a CBEST credential, which allows me to teach in all subject areas for grades K-6. I have also tutored in English, elementary math and social studies for these grades.
I taught ESL for 6 years through the Garden Grove Unified Adult School and have worked with people from all over the world, helping many students improve their grammar, writing ability, fluency and accents. I can tailor a tutoring program to your specific needs, whether they be for better grades in school, improving your presentation skills for business, or helping your own children with their homework.
I have taught flute students for the past 10 years. My former students are currently playing in marching bands, orchestras, and small ensembles. I have helped students audition for performing arts programs, and they have all "aced" their auditions. If you are a beginning or intermediate student who wants to improve your technique, I can help you do just that. Currently, I play with a classical harp and flute duo, "Wings of the Wind," in Orange County.
I am currently a soloist with my congregational choir and have taught voice students for more than 10 years. My former students are currently appearing in local theatrical and musical productions, commercials, and performing groups. I have had a 100% success rate with auditions--every student of mine has gotten into the performing arts school of their choice. I have sung back-up vocals on CDs and toured internationally with a popular blues group in Canada, the Rick Zona Project. I studied voice with Faye Newman, a gifted vocal coach and music director. If you're looking to improve your vocal range, tonal quality, or just sound better when you perform karaoke, then you'll enjoy learning with me.
