With twenty-five years as an educator, my knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for the profession have led me to a wide range of experiences. My background in creative arts/theater performance is instrumental in my work with students which is based on experiential learning and facilitating and modeling appropriate behaviors for the classroom, the home and across all learning environments.
I have completed training in Applied Behavior Analysis and have been working as a Behavior Therapist, Enhanced Respite Care Provider and a Learning Coach. My background includes work in both classroom teaching and private tutoring.
My mission is to challenge and inspire my students to grow academically, emotionally and spiritually by using my compassion, my energy and enthusiasm, my unique perspective and my belief in the student's inherent goodness, integrity and enormous potential. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked extensively with middle school/high school students in transition and school to work programs. I have been teaching for over 23 years. Within my working career, I have made several job focus changes.
I passed the CBEST in 1987. I have been teaching since that time. During my career, I have provided support for fellow teachers as a BTSA mentor and have served as Dept. Chair and part of Leadership Team. I currently teach full time as well as tutor SAT Writing.
I have attended multiple trainings related to Common Core. The most recent training was Connecting Common Core to IEP Goals. This training was designed to train the trainers. I was provided with the tools necessary to train my colleagues and peers.
I hold a Clear Level 11 Special Education Specialist credential in Ca. I have also taught in Michigan, Oklahoma, Arizona. I have experience teaching at all levels up through adult transition. I worked for 4 years as an Elementary Resource Specialist.
With over 23 years of teaching as a special education/resource specialist, I have a great deal of experience in teaching phonics and reading. I am familiar with older forms of teaching, as well as, the new programs that have been implemented.
My background and extensive experience in theater performance, as well as, extensive teaching and learning coaching have given me skills necessary to teach public speaking.
I hold a California clear level 11 special education specialist credential. I have been teaching for over 23 years in special education.
I have been working with middle school/high school age students for over 23 years on life skills and study skills.
I have a theater minor from Prescott College. I have over 30 years experience in theater and voice production.
In my work as a special educator, I have developed and taught classes in yoga and dance for special needs students. I have been involved in theater/dance productions for over 30 years, have taken extensive classes in dance and yoga.
