For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. I am a teacher from England. I am qualified by the University of London, with an honors degree and have been teaching reading professionally to the youngest of children and non readers since 1983 in the city of London.
I have worked with many non English families. I am an expert familiar with multiple proven methods so I am able to utilize whatever method works for the individual. I have had many successes with older children who were failing in reading before tutoring and the benefit has lasted ever since.
Some children are more visual, some more aural and some more kinesthetic. Some do better with high energy and fun stimulation, others by more relaxed style, and taking the pressure off. Some do better with rules and phonics, or games, and others learn by sight such as the 'look and say' method and props.
Most do much better as soon as we start tutoring by my being able to connect with their own personality and follow their individual interests. As well I am able to support parents so that they are informed and so that their style will not impede progress.
