Tutoring requires patience, compassion, and understanding of the student's needs in the academic area. The tutoring sessions should improve the student's self-esteem, character, and willingness to further participate in classroom exercises. Furthermore, the sessions will remove fear of completing homework and instill confidence. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are synonymous descriptions for a student who cannot concentrate in a large class setting. The severity of the student's condition is therefore, determined by completion of an assessment by administrators, psychologists. counselors, school nurse, and teachers. The parent or guardian is asked to attend and findings are discussed. The Individual Education Plan or (IEP) is then implemented to attempt to educate the student. Students with this description are in special education classes at least 80% and general education classes 20% (usually PE or an elective). I have successfully taught special education students in LAUSD for ten years.
Bible Study is a study of the 66 Books or chapters in the Bible. The Bible is divided into two parts, The Old Testament and The Testament. The Bible chronicles civilization according to God's Creation and Jesus' time on earth. The Bible is a historical prescription for how Christians should live and share the Gospel. I have been an ordained minister for two and a half years.
Career development assists the student in vocation and career choice based on skill and interest. Sometimes career choices require the student to work while training. Variables have to be determined based on if a student is a parent of dependent children. The career developer has to assist the parent and student to insure all effort is exerted for gainful independence. While in college, I worked as a job developer for students and worked closely with employers to fill positions.
The California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST) is now the standard test that is implemented to potential teachers. The test includes exams in math, English, grammar, literature, and writing. This test must be passed before employment can be obtained. I passed this test in 1997.
I hold a cosmetology license and degree in cosmetology.
