Hello! My name is Colleen and I have been tutoring and teaching in a variety of capacities for the past 15 years. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Columbia University with a major in Sociology in 2014. Since then I spent two years as a high school math teacher, two years as the Director of Instruction at a tutoring and college counseling company, 1 year getting my masters in education at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and the last 4 months teaching 7th grade math and Algebra 1 at a middle school in Oakland Unified School District.

I love tutoring because I love helping students. Not only do I love teaching content (I am certified in both Secondary Mathematics and Social Studies), but I also love teaching students how to understand the tests that they are taking. I believe that in order to do their best, tutors and teachers should have frank conversations with students about how and why tests are created the way they are.

I am an outstanding math tutor because I have looked at math curriculum from different viewpoints and have helped a wide variety of students. Having taught 7th, 8th, 9th, 10, and 11th graders, I have the ability to see the curriculum as a continuum and can help students to see the connections between what they have learned in different years.

I am an outstanding ACT tutor because I deeply understand how the test is created. Having spent two years tutoring this test and advising families as my full time job, I am able to break down each section, teaching a combination of content skills needed and test-taking skills needed.

Test Preparation

ISEE,

ISEE

Having spent two years working as the Director of Instruction at a private tutoring company, I am very familiar with a range of standardized tests. I have tutored the ISEE, the SAT, and the ACT. I currently teach middle school mathematics, so helping students in that age range develop quantitative reasoning is both my profession and my passion!

Highly knowledgeable and patient Tutor

Colleen is an amazing tutor, she was able to unweave the complicity of pre-cal so that my HS daughter could easily understand. And she’s also very friendly and relatable. Highly recommended!
