He makes films with Stanford professors on leadership and high tech research, and has worked around the world filming indigenous peoples for the Smithsonian Institution. Steve taught cinematography at Pixar University, and enjoys engaging with students' creativity.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a filmmaker for 35 years, starting out shooting and editing 16mm film, working in videotape, and now fully at ease in the digital realm. I am a director, producer, cameraman, and editor. I also have a detailed knowledge of world cinema, and the history of film.
I have concentrated on motion photography in my career, but I am also proficient in still photography. I printed photos in a darkroom in my younger days. I am familiar with the latest digital photography cameras and techniques.
I have been a video producer with work on PBS, National Geographic, and Discovery for the last 25 years. I have focused on documentaries, but also done music videos, and I was director of photography on one feature film. For the last 10 years, my work has concentrated on videos for non-profits and various good causes.
