Associate of Applied Sciences (Graphic Arts)
I am a graphic designer & photographer with 20+ years of experience. Over the years, I have worked for a large, international corporation and on the other end of the spectrum, a small privately owned business. Eventually, I started my own 2-person design business in 2001 and continue my freelance business today on my own.
I received my Associates Degree in Graphic Design & Desktop Publishing in 1996. I design for both print & web; specializing in print. A large portion of my design work is branding, logo design and print collateral. I have a passion for clean design using typography, color and photography. I am most happy when I can take on a project that allows me to incorporate all of these elements. I have extensive experience using the Adobe Creative Suite of design applications. I recently made the jump to subscribing to the Adobe Creative Cloud (CC). It is very important to me that I keep up with industry standards.
Circumstances in life brought me from Chicago, Illinois to San Diego, California. I live with my daughter and help care for my grandson (with another one on the way). I currently handle freelance work through my old clients in Chicago, and stock photography for Getty Images. Being able to work for home and set my own hours works very well with my living situation. I now have the opportunity to work outside of the home and am very interested in sharing my knowledge and expertise with others. I am looking to tutor others in graphic design concepts in addition to the software applications used in design. I also possess a highly technical background so along with teaching about design I'd love to tutor others in the proper use of a computer in the design process. That includes understanding the operating system, file naming conventions, storage and organization. I have worked mainly in a PC environment but I am also skilled with the Apple operating system.
Finally, my main passion in life is photography. I have been able to turn my hobby into a paying gig by licensing my images through stock photography agencies. I license privately and through Getty Images. So I add photography to my tutoring list. What I want to offer is how to operate a DSLR camera and the associated workflow in getting an image from camera to computer to final file whether that be for sharing with family and social networks or in creating a digitally correct file for use in print & web design. Not only do I want to share the technical side of photography, I want to share the creative side. How to compose an image, how to make a visually pleasing image.
I have privately tutored many people of all ages over the years and look forward to meeting new people in San Diego and sharing my skills, my expertise and my passion for design and photography. I scheduled a two-hour tutorial with Trina to go over the basics of organizing and editing my photos using Adobe Lightroom. She arrived on time (early, in fact. I am pointing this out as a good quality.) and proceeded to teach me the ins and outs of Lightroom. I liked that she allowed me to 'drive' the lesson and was very thorough in her explanations. Trina did not hijack the mouse and keyboard (like some tutors tend to do) and instead, talked me through processes as I manipulated photos and files so I would understand how to do these things on my own. Finally, she gave me some printouts that she had put together to outline some common Adobe functions as well as Lightroom file organization principles. I am definitely going to consider her as I work with other programs in the Creative Cloud suite. Highly recommend Trina.
Trina's help was just what I needed to get started with Adobe Lightroom. She took me through the steps I needed to load the program, set up a file system and download photos so I could start my edit process. I could not have done this without her help. She is an excellent teacher and took her time to explain what I needed to know.
Trina is a professional in every sense and has added greatly to my understanding of Lightroom and photography. She is fun and a great communicator. I am so glad I have a coach who is helping me increase my skills. I am looking forward to my next session!
I needed assistance with learning Lightroom 5 and Trina is an expert. She is very knowledgeable and organized in her method of tutoring. I can strongly recommend her for anyone desiring help with photography in general.
Trina was very patient and informative with my many questions about both Photoshop CS6 and Adobe Lightroom. It was a pleasure working with her and I will utilize her in the future. She gets the highest rating and recommendations!
Although I thought I knew what I wanted in my initial request for Photoshop tutoring on a new project/venture of mine, our first meeting turned into more of a consultation and input on what's the best way of achieving my project goals. And that's exactly what I needed. With our ongoing sessions, I'm even more excited that my project is going to exceed my expectations. I told her (and lucky for me) that its obvious she's been around the 'graphic design block' many times. A joy to work with!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
