I graduated from the University of Oregon with degrees in English, Journalism, and General Music. I took a training course to become an English literature tutor and also worked as a reader/grader for multiple professors and classes. I've helped students through everything from choosing a topic to organization to looking over the final copy. I have read and graded hundreds of essays and tests so I know what teachers are looking for. I love English lit and can make it fun even for those who usually don't enjoy reading and writing. Kourtney tutored my daughter this summer. My daughter plays for Chamber Winds at her high school. She plays the flute but decided to learn to play the oboe. She only had this summer to master the instrument. Kourtney was there to help her, and thanks to her my daughter is doing very well. She has received compliments from her band, teacher, and her sectional teacher. Kourtney has a great personality. She is very patient, thorough and always encouraging. She travelled all the way to Union City, and she was always on time. I'm so glad we found her since it's very hard to find oboe teachers. I would highly recommend her to anyone.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I recently completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Music with a focus on Oboe Performance. I have experience teaching beginning and intermediate oboe students. As a teacher I can help with reeds/instrument information, sound quality, technical challenges, music theory, sight-reading, and how to fit within an ensemble. I love playing oboe and can make it fun instead of frustrating, even though oboe is a difficult instrument to learn.
I took piano lessons for ten years and went through the Syllabus program, teaching me theory as well as performance. I have a degree in music which included continuing practicing the theory concepts we learned on the piano. I have experience teaching piano lessons to young students, including theory concepts and technical skills.
