Reading, writing, the English language are the foundation upon which all learning is built. I trained as a life coach, midwife and raised two college graduates. I understand the isolation and confusion that comes with parenting. I use support groups, meditation, cooking, writing and one on one sessions with clients to help women feel confident in their mothering. "It is the hardest thing you'll ever do that makes you see the best of you in them." If you feel confident with your skills, then all other subjects can be achieved.
I come from a family of educators. I grew up in a household where my mother, who was an English teacher, constantly corrected our grammar. I taught English for five years at the middle school and high school levels. Most recently, I taught Creative Writing in an after school program for elementary age children. It was very enjoyable for everyone because my students got to use their imaginations, and I got to see the light go on in their eyes when they realized they could think and create their way through any task set before them.
I have taught in remedial school settings with children who are approaching high school and are not able to read. I have also taught reading in programs for adults who could not read or write. I have taught in youth detention facilities where most of my students believed they couldn't learn. A number of my students in detention, discovered in our time together, that not only could they learn but they liked the subject and went on to pursue writing or teaching as careers.
I left teaching in schools because there were so few resources to help children really learn. Instilling a love of the language and confidence is the role of any good teacher. That is what I get to do as a tutor.
My love of the English language and reading and writing is something I would do even if I didn't get paid, but paying the bills has become a necessity to which I've grown accustom! I look forward to working with each new student. Reading, writing, the English language are the foundation upon which all learning is built. I trained as a life
If you are looking for a very hands on tutor and hard working one as well then I recommend Sauda, she very helpful and understanding and her knowledge is incomparable. She really is a great tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
English can be a difficult language to learn, but I didn't know that until I tried to learn another language. One of the quickest ways to be successful using English is to read often, listen and have conversations about things you care about in it. I have helped numerous students become proficient in English. Just trust that you have the intelligence to try and I have the knowledge to guide.
Writing can be an overwhelming experience. Making mistakes can paralyze us from putting pen to paper. We all struggle with what to write, how to write and then there are the pesky issues of grammar and spelling! Knowing the rules is the best way to write well. I enjoy teaching the rules of writing in a non-threatening way.
I have spent years learning to quiet my own inner critic and get the words onto the page. I am experienced in helping you communicate your thoughts and feelings by writing in a clear and concise manner. Getting your point across is the goal. I have taught all ages and levels, from a Chinese immigrant teenager who could write only in his native tongue, to seniors writing their memories down. I have taught writing to functionally illiterate adults, as well as creative writing to elementary students and teens.
