About Will

I am a recent Harvard graduate, with a degree in Biology and perfect scores on the SAT I.

I tutor SAT Writing, Reading, and Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, Statistics
Introductory and AP Classes, Music lessons - specializing in voice and trumpet and College application advising.

I have an easygoing attitude, and make learning these difficult subjects fun!

I graduated from Harvard University in 2009 with a degree in Biology. I have been tutoring since 2006, and have helped dozens of students reach their academic goals. I love learning about and teaching science, and I especially love working with high school students, since high school is the time when people develop the passions that will guide them through the rest of their lives.

I have also worked as a research assistant in a plant genetics laboratory, and I currently work for a small solar energy company. With that company, I recently co-authored and edited a textbook called Solar Hot Water Fundamentals.

In the summers, I work for Seeds of Peace and Seas of Peace, which are conflict resolution and leadership programs for teenagers from conflict regions around the world. I am very grateful to be a mentor for these brave, intelligent, motivated young leaders.

In my spare time, I love to play music, rock climb, sail, and enjoy the beautiful Bay Area weather!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra is about more than solving for x - it's about learning to think logically! I focus my Algebra lessons on developing the underlying goal of step-by-step reasoning, while still making sure that the student masters the material and is ready for the tests. By bringing in real-world examples of algebra in action, I make the subject simple, relevant, and fun!

I love biology! Since the time I was in middle school, it has always been my favorite subject! I graduated from Harvard in 2009 with a degree in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, and I have a great deal of research and field experience. I have worked in labs on everything from human stem cell research to plant genetics, and in the field doing ecology research in the rain forests of Bornean Malaysia and on the Pacific Ocean.

These experiences have given me a wide range of stories that I use in my biology lessons to illustrate the concepts in the textbook. They also help to make our sessions more dynamic and fun! Nothing spices up a lecture quite like watching ants devour a boa constrictor!

In my opinion, geometry is the most important high school math subject! There are two reasons for this.

First, it is the math discipline that is most likely to be used in daily life after high school. I have had to figure out the angles of triangles and the volumes of solids so many times when building little home projects!

Second, it teaches students how to logically and carefully think about the physical properties of objects.

My geometry lessons focus on developing these logical thinking skills, which are applicable in every aspect of life! I ask lots of questions, and we don't just memorize formulas, but we think about WHY things work the way we do.

My lessons are fun, thorough, and helpful for even the most math-phobic person! I can help you raise your grades and increase your enthusiasm for math!
