I'm Samuel! I have a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I had also completed my Bachelor's (double major in Math and CS, with honors in the College of Letters & Sciences). A lot of my PhD work involved making computers do weird math, which has been a longstanding hobby of mine!
I love learning, and it is a joy to share the spark of fresh understanding with others. I got my first taste for this by peer tutoring in high school (chemistry) and have continued seeking opportunities to help friends and family in years since, such as by helping my own younger sister with her community college math courses. The tutoring relationship I'm most familiar with is one where you, the student, have hit a roadblock: maybe there's a homework assignment you're struggling with, or maybe there's a concept from class you just can't wrap your head around. My goal, then, is to help you understand the material well enough to feel confident moving forward--to feel capable when confronting the homework.
But most importantly, I think that math can be a rewarding (dare I say "fun") puzzle-solving activity when done not under duress!
Further, I briefly worked in the Tech industry after completing my PhD, where I performed a hybrid software engineering / research position. I have extensive experience with computer systems, including expertise with Linux and Programming Languages in general (the ones I've written the most lines of code in, myself, are C/C++, Python, and Java). If you have computer questions, I can certainly help you find answers!
