I've tutored analytical and creative writing with 7th - 12th graders in the Berkeley schools for seven years as a volunteer with Writer Coach Connection. During that time, I was also part of a select group chosen to tutor seniors on their college admission essays, to train groups of students county-wide on college essay composition, and to evaluate & rank scholarship application essays for the West Contra Costa County Ed Fund. I created and taught a popular college essay workshop for first generation college-bound students through Y-scholars. Additionally, I worked professionally with Master's and PhD students drafting their theses and dissertations, taught courses in Psychology on the graduate level, edited poetry, memoir & short fiction, and have enjoyed copywriting for other 'solopreneurs' in the healing arts. As a therapist and relationship coach, I also currently work with adult clients to create online dating profiles. In all these arenas, I'm thrilled to witness people arrive at surprising truths, and learn to capture them precisely w/ language. I think this background uniquely qualifies me to help you understand and overcome barriers to your writing success.

To me, reading & thinking are the soil from which the 'writing tree' grows, and self-discovery, self-definition and self-expression are it's flowering. Perhaps surprisingly, I've seen this strengthening process equally in academic and creative writing. Of course, learning to read and write well gives you better grades, and more college & career options. That's probably why you want a tutor now. But over time, the discipline of writing also expands your power to observe, analyze, prioritize, and create: in other words, it nourishes you to live life wide-awake, engaged and delighted.

I've always loved language. From the time I learned to read at age 3, to giving the speech for my middle-school graduation, to finding the words that help heal in psychotherapy, or that open doors to college, career or romance, I've been continually amazed by the power of apt expression. It can be transformative and empowering for both the creator and recipient. It's fun!! And it can be learned.

I offer complimentary consultations so you can experience what it would be like to work together. I'd like to know what challenges you face with reading, writing, or public speaking, and to talk through approaches that can make the difference for you. Contact me for more information, to ask any questions, and to schedule a consultation.
