I have taught—and awakened—students from preschool to graduate school. I have had 7th grade students, who were bored to tears, within one class period engaged and arguing about critical issues. I understand the boredom; I barely got through high school myself. I know from both sides of the desk that kids are capable of deep thought; they are turned on by learning and expressing themselves. Sometimes they just don’t know it yet. I have also had graduate students who thought they were allergic to theory, until they understood how to use it to participate in the academic game and have their voices heard. Students at every level just need to be touched so they see how what they are learning applies to them. So, let’s play!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I earned a Ph.D. in Religion from Claremont Graduate University in 2003. I also hold a Masters in Religions of the World from Harvard Divinity School, earned in 1996. My experience includes having taught comparative religious studies courses(e.g., World Religions, Introduction to Religion, Contemporary Religious Thought, etc.)for over 13 years. I taught in the Religious Studies Departments of a variety of universities and colleges in southern and northern California.
